Extractions: Channel 4 has begun filming on NOT ONLY BUT ALWAYS , a major new feature-length drama based on the iconic but turbulent partnership of classic comedy duo PETER COOK and DUDLEY MOORE. NOT ONLY BUT ALWAYS is written and directed by acclaimed playwright Terry Johnson. Rhys Ifans stars as the irrepressible Peter Cook alongside Aidan McArdle as Dudley Moore. Credited as the inventors of modern British satire, the film charts the searing highs and lows of these two extraordinary and different comedians, whose careers and private lives often swung in as uncontrolled and anarchic turns as their wit. John Yorke, Channel 4's Head of Drama said: "This is a fantastic project for Channel 4 to be involved in and continues our commitment to strong single dramas. It's a history of British comedy, a look at the psychology of a relationship, and a portrait of post-war Britain. But most of all, it's the story of Pete and Dud."

[ Richard III ] isn't just a star vehicle, it is also the final part of an epic series that's as gripping as the Godfather films. Yes, all the rival factions are a who's who nightmare and it's not without its boring bits. That's the play for you. But there are so many inspired things in director Michael Boyd's production that the evening cooks up a storm... A brilliant young actor, Aidan McArdle , has strapped on the hump and the callipers for the title role. He's a psychotic with a rather camp sense of gallows comedy - a ripe mix say, of Antony SHer and Graham Norton... James Jone's fabulous music and the tininess of the Young Vic stage - a landing strip arrangement - brings home this project in a blaze of glory. The RSC these days is often hidden behind its corporate logo. This is the wildest, livelist thing it has done in ages." The Express

Extractions: A DERBY usually transcends into a battle of great rigour and it is those that battle the hardest come out the victor. Not so in Killeavy the game had all the ingredients of a derby, tough tackling, rash challenges, heated exchanges but one thing the game failed to stand up to was good football. The score rarely tells any lies and a combined score of seven points is disappointing for any spectator but it was the celebrations of the winners at the end of game that brought it back home, it was a niggley derby. Wind blew diagonally across the field giving Dromintee the advantage in the first half and the strong gale was far from suitable for a good game. Both sides had the fight and the hunger to win but putting will into practice proved a difficult task. The wind has to account for some of the shooting and this gave Dromintee a game plan of shoot for long range points in the first half and only consider going for goals in the second. County players Aidan and Martin ORourke for Dromintee and Steven McDonnell werent playing and Barry Duffy only came on for the last 15 minutes for the home side.

Extractions: DROMINTEE booked their place in the Senior Championship semi finals with an impressive and entertaining display against Lurgan side Clan na Gael. Two goals within ten minutes demonstrated Dromintee's determination and efficiency. The South Armagh side have been let down before with a lack of self-belief and a tendency not to share responsibility. However, this was a team performance with Oliver Gaughran and Martin ORourke causing havoc amidst the Clans back lines. An explosive start for Dromintee made too much of a mountain for the Lurgan side to climb. A minute and 20 seconds into the game Gaughran had the ball in the back of the net. The goal had touch of fortune as Gaughrans sideline kick looked to be floating over the bar only to dip and catch goalkeeper unaware and land in the net. However, if doubt remained over the merit of the first goal then little could qualm about the legitimacy of the second. Martin ORourke and Gaughran continually pressed the backs and Clans had non-effective answer to Dromintees questions. Diarmaid Marsden played at centre half back and it was clear that he was supposed to win the ball and assist in running through the heart of Dromintee. This ploy did not materialise as intended due to the holding and pressure game that Dromintee enjoyed.

The British Theatre Guide : Reviews - A Prayer For Owen Meany This is seen at its rawest as aidan mcardle produces a great Lenny Bruce routine which nearly does for his voice. As well as fully realising the characters http://www.britishtheatreguide.info/reviews/owenmeany-rev.htm
Extractions: Review by Philip Fisher (2002) The second play in the Lyttelton Transformation season is another adaptation of a modern novel. A Prayer for Owen Meany is John Irving's New Hampshire-set tale of a Christ-like young boy. The first thing to mention is that it is distinguished by excellent acting, particularly from Aidan McArdle as the eponymous hero. It must take all of his physical resources to perform for three hours in the part of "a boy with a wrecked voice". To do this, he produces a voice reminiscent of Mickey Mouse and it is clear by the end of the performance that this is very hard work. The style of Mick Gordon's production is reminiscent of previous adaptations at the National such as Remembrance of Things Past and the wonderful Cloudstreet . It is very episodic and uses a bare set with props appearing from the wings and flies. It achieves great success by adding layer upon impressionistic layer to build up a picture of this latter-day Messiah. The play thrives on dramatic tensions. At almost any moment, the good will be juxtaposed with the bad, although it is not always certain which is which. This adds to an intimate drawing of the relationship between Owen, with his certain Catholic upbringing, and his great friend, disciple and chronicler, Johnny Wheelwright, played by Richard Hope. By contrast, he is a man who searches for but cannot find religious faith.
