NBC never gave this action show a real chance. Well . . as a nine year old I just ate this program up. I had all my toy cars and helicopter in front of the TV with me. I re-enacted all the chase scenes during the commercials. But now? Come on, how those cars got past the California Emissions testing is beyond me. And what fiscally-minded Mayor would allow such money to be spent every week (every week!) pursuing a couple of dead-beat dads or insurance fraud artists. I mean, jeez, sending four cars and a helicopter out . . salaries and gas (not to mention damage to Police property, private property and the sheer terror on pedestrians) Actually, come to think of it .. .seems like every time I turn on the L.A. news now . . . Chase has become a reality show . . . wow. Chase really was the blueprint for TV future.

After the war he was made lieutenant-colonel of the Seventh Cavalry on America's western frontier. Custer is best remembered for losing the battle of Little Big Horn, in which his troops faced combined bands of Lakota Sioux, Cheyenne, and Arapaho indians led by the chief Sitting Bull . The battle ended with Custer's troops on a knoll encircled by Indians, a moment which became known as Custer's Last Stand; Custer and his entire force of over 200 men were killed. The battle made Custer a popular American hero and martyr for nearly a century, but by the late 1900s his stardom faded a bit as his tactics were more closely examined and as popular attitudes toward Native Americans changed. The site of the battle, in what is now Montana, was designated as a national monument in 1946. Custer's body was buried on the battlefield, but later exhumed and reburied at West Point.

It centered in the San Joaquin Valley of California in the 1870s and concerned Murdoch Lancer, a widower, and Teresa, his young ward, trying to protect their 100,000 acres cattle and timberland empire. Since the elderly Murdoch Lancer could not fight alone against the land pirates, he called in his two sons by different marriages, gunslinger Johnny Madrid, who had spent most of his life along the border towns of the Southwest proving his prowess with a gun, and college graduate Scott from Boston. Murdoch offered them each one-third of the land if they would help fight off the bad guys. Since neither of the two boys had met the other, and coming from widely different cultural backgrounds and harboring animosity toward each other, the series made for some very interesting conflicts. Gradually, they all learned to respect each other and settle in as family.
