Extractions: Chase Masterson Interviews Ron Moore and Lolita Fatjo - 3/14 Show Recap Chase Masterson (Star Trek: Deep Space 9) hosted another double feature at TheFandom.com with guests Ronald Moore and Lolita Fatigo . Ron has won 6 Emmys for his visual effects, while Lolita has 16 years under her belt working on Star Trek scripts! Lolita started us off by bringing up the fact that Paramount is holding on to the Enterprise sets. Could it mean there is still hope for the cancelled series? Lolita says that without a doubt, there will be a new Star Trek show, but an Enterprise revival looks bleak at this time. She took us through her long career with Paramount and Star Trek, how she got started as an expert Microsoft Word temp when she had no clue what it was! She recalls the honor she felt working with Gene Roddenbury on the set of Star Trek: The Next Generation and the wonderful episodes the show put out over the years. Of course, our Fandom shows wouldn't be complete without a little humor. Lolita co-wrote a play entitled Ferengi Family Hour and we listened to a hysterical Star Trek version of Sonny and Cher's, I Got You Babe. Check out Lolita's website at http://www.LolitaFatjo.com for more information!
Extractions: Chase Masterson Interviews LeVar Burton (Lt. Cmdr. Geordi La Forge on Star Trek:TNG) - 7/11/05 Radio Recap Chase Masterson (Star Trek: DS9) welcomed Lavar Burton to the studio today! Lavar played Lt. Geordi LaForge in Star Trek: The Next Generation in both the series and the films that followed. Lavar was well known even before his Star Trek appearances. You may remember him starring in the award winning film âRootsâ in the late 70's, and on to âReading Rainbowâ on PBS, which has been running for 21 years! Lavar told us that he had actually studied to be a priest before he changed his career to acting. His very first audition came when he was still in college, when he landed the role as Kinte in âRoots.â He has been a huge sci-fi buff his whole life and seeing Nichelle as Lt. Uhura on the original Star Trek was a changing experience for him. He says that science fiction invites us to dream and Star Trek is part of our culture. From a 1960's ST communicator, to the cell phones we have today, Star Trek has created many technical wonders.

Extractions: Did you enjoy the make-up, or was it a tiring process? I did my first play when I was five years old, and one of my first memories in life is the smell of the make-up in the dressing room. I just loved it then, and I still do. I love everything about it. It's not the most fun thing, but it's one of the fun things about being an actress, getting to dress up and change who you are. Were the actors who played Ferengi as keen as you? To be honest, my make-up took longer than the Ferengis'. When Leeta was a Dabo girl, and there was glamorous make-up added, hair, make-up and wardrobe was a three and a half-hour process. Beauty make-up actually takes quite a long time. Hey, that's how long it usually takes me every day! (laughs).

Extractions: Written by Sashi Alexandra German DS9's Max Grodenchik (Rom) had just appeared the previous week at a convention in Valley Forge (I have posted that review here). Max joked that they were filming an episode where Leeta's line is "He's cute" referring to Rom. Max joked at the convention that he carried that page of dialogue with him everywhere. Did she know he did that? Masterson said she had heard about it. She said there wasn't much exciting about the perfect couple Bashir and Leeta. "It makes it more interesting to do something different" and have the unlikely pair of Leeta and Rom instead. How did she get onto Star Trek? She was originally trying out for the part of "Marta" the Dabo Girl, Jake's girlfriend. She really wanted the part and worked hard at getting it and was even coached by her friend and old acting classmate Jonathan DeLarco (Hugh, the Borg from ST:TNG). She was called back several times for further tryouts and finally it was down between her and one other woman. In the end the other woman got it because she was closer to Cirroc Lofton's age, "And I wasn't." Ever since she lost the part she had really wanted to get hired. She heard later that the part of Leeta was written for her. She met Avery Brooks while he was directing the Marta episode she said they gave each other "a hard time" and had a lot of fun, laughing a lot "He was very easy to get to know." She has always loved DS9 even before she was hired on the program. When asked why she did, "Because of the Ferengi." She said in the end it was ironic that now she was not only on the show, but was now dating the very alien she likes the most! She also likes DS9 because she feels producer and writer Ira Steven Behr is the best and writes the best dialogue "he's fun and poignant."

She was a very active little girl and her parents were constantly yelling at her, 'Get over here! I am not going to chase you around!'" "Every once in a while you meet someone really special. Someone with whom you feel instantly bonded. Use your imagination, I sure did!" (Ta-dum!) "Chase is a woman known for her intellect. Meet a wonderfully talented actress, Chase Masterson!" (Eric gestures stage right and gets hit in the stomach with a loaded tribble! He exits groaning, clutching his middle.) Chase: "What a guy! Hey, Victoria! I'm having a great time; are you having fun?" "You know, everyone mis-spells my name. It's supposed to be Chaste Masterson." (Ta-dum!) Dabo Girl Glamour "I am so pleased that the character has grown and caught on. I love coming to conventions! Travel can be a problem sometimes. I was at the airport with a box of pictures and I was stopped at customs. 'What's that?' 'Uhh, 2,000 pictures of me.' On the outside of the box a picture was pasted of a line of Ferengi's holding me up in the air, horizontally, like one of those chorus line dance numbers?' Well, this customs officer looks at the picture and looks at meI came to the airport straight from the shower, wet head, no makeup, sweatshe says, 'Are you on Deep Space Nine? ' 'Yes!' 'Girl, you look GOOD...on TV!'" (Ta-dum!)
