Extractions: As you may or may not know, yesterday, July 7 (I'm not sure about this, I've heard from other sources that it was July 1), was the third anniversary of Dominic Lucero's death. He played Bumlets in "Newsies" and was also in the cast of the Nickelodeon TV show "Roundhouse," a sketch comedy with lots of song and dance. I conducted a search to find out all I could about Dominic and his death, and here's what I came up with... HOW HE GOT STARTED IN SHOW BUSINESS : California born and bred, Dominic got interested in performing while still in high school. "I was always singing with the radio when I was younger," he recalls. "I was always dancing around. I thought I was going to be a lawyerdon't ask me why. as I got to high school, after I finished all of my sports and everything, I thought maybe I want to get into theater. I got the bug and kept on doing it." He started doing commercials and was picked for his incredible dancing. His major break was joining up with Michael Jackson for his "Bad" tour. Dominic also worked with Paula Abdul for a year and a halfhe was her assistant choreographer. He worked with her on the American Music Awards and even won an Emmy for it! Dominic has also appeared in the movies Stand and Deliver and Newsies. The Eastdale era of dominance ended in 2002 following a run of seven consecutive district titles and five straight state championships at the Majors level. A 2004 district title loss to Roadrunner Little League indicated other leagues had caught up to the Northeast Heights powerhouse. The league might not have reached state at the Majors level since 2002, but this is, after all, still Eastdale. Roundhouse was the best show Nickelodeon ever produced. The skits were better than Keenan and Kal or whatever that show is called. I remember the skit "Tori Spelling Bee" man I laughed so hard I cried. This show should have never ever been cancelled. Roundhouse jumped the shark the moment that season 2 began. Old cast members had left, and by the time season 4 ended there were way to many lame jokes. The show just wasn't crisp, fresh, and exciting like it was in the beginning, although there were many good moments through the remainder seasons. This show was by far the best thing to ever happen to Nickelodeon and they know it. After it went off, they came out with all these half-baked wannabes like Keenan and Kel or All That which were all just immature, slower, unfunny, and boring versions of this show. One of the best shows ever to be on cable TV. Each time a new season premiered, I thought "its never going to be as good as the last one," but it usually was. The changes in lighting and studio from season 1 to 2 threw me for a loop, but I adjusted and soon, it was not a big deal. But the 4th season of this show was totally unacceptable. While Natasha had a good voice, she just didn't compare to other female leads like Lisa Vale and Crystal Lewis. And she really couldn't act. The 2 part episodes, such as the earthquake and time travel were just plain stupid.

It's where the spotlight lingered at the end of a Tuesday afternoon workshop in which Archuleta County commissioners were presented a pair of road-maintenance scenarios by Bill Steele, county administrator. The first proposal offered was a short-term plan aimed at providing a maintenance option for residents living along roads that are currently not maintained by the county. A second set of options targeted long-range goals and included discussion of a countywide, comprehensive road-maintenance plan and how it might be funded - a notion that raised the question of placing a potential mill-levy increase before voters on this year's General Election ballot. According to Steele, both initiatives were developed through collaboration with Dick McKee, county public works director. Likewise, both came on the heels of a Monday evening meeting in Twincreek Village with residents of Sweetwater Drive in which Steele, Commissioner Alden Ecker and Kathy Holthus, assistant county administrator, were advised of "several issues and complaints" related to the county's current maintenance policies. Sweetwater Drive, a badly-deteriorated road not maintained by the county due to what Steele described as "the infamous road moratorium of 1984," is exemplary of "the Catch 22" predicament faced by a number of county residents inhabiting similar thoroughfares.
