Cover Story (011905) lanza doesn t offer massage at her spa but instead an array of new touch you for licensing, says Onondaga School admissions director suzanne Eckerman. http://newtimes.rway.com/2005/wellness05/covera.shtml
Extractions: It's all about touching. A burgeoning interest in holistic therapies has launched an unprecedented number of massage and spa centers to address the needs of a touch-deprived population. The movement covers everything from familiar techniques once used to merely primp and pamper to unconventional therapies that treat nagging health issues. So with an increased demand, the number of licensed massage therapists in Syracuse continues to grow. "The demand for licensed therapists has increased 25 percent over the past 10 years," says William Ashmall, director of the Onondaga School of Therapeutic Massage, 719 E. Genesee St. (424-1159). Douglas Van Delia and Elizabeth M. Goldenberg first opened the school in September 1997. In fact, the opportunities in the field are vast. A national survey conducted in July 2002 revealed that 34.2 percent of massage therapists work in multidisciplinary offices like chiropractics, physical therapists, hospitals and fitness centers, 31.2 percent work in massage offices and 14.9 percent work in their homes, while the remainder work in day spas, hotels and with athletic teams. About 80 percent of massage therapists are women. With sessions starting at $40 per hour, a therapist working full time could gross $40,000 to $70,000 annually. To practice massage in New York state it is necessary to successfully complete an approved 1,000-hour training program and pass the state licensing exam, held each January and August. New York has the most stringent licensing requirements; most other states require 750 hours or less of training. "The school is here to assist you every step of the way to prepare you for licensing," says Onondaga School admissions director Suzanne Eckerman.

Shasta McNasty introduces us to three young men (Scott, Dennis and Ran) who make an art form out of mediocrity. They have all, too, accumulated semi-celebrity status as a hip-hop band, but are content struggling to keep their lives status quo, as opposed to working hard to cross the threshold into fame and fortune. In the familiar multi-camera landscape of sitcoms, Shasta McNasty blows the roof off what's expected in primetime television. With bigger than life characters and clever musical devices, it promises broad comedy with clever social observation. Though the guys' instincts aren't always to do the right thing, and they usually make a situation worse before it gets better, they are fiercely loyal to each other and have the philosophy that life has a way of working itself out." Extractions: Jonathan Eliot is the focal point of this ho-hum sitcom. Surrounded by his friends, all of them married during the first season, Jonathan searched for love (or at least companionship) in nearly every episode. In its second season, already a Friends -style clone, The Single Guy dumped two of its married characters and added three new single ones, destroying the comparisons between single Jonathan and his married friends. The Single Guy was a victim of NBC Studios homogenization. NBC-produced sitcoms ( Conrad Bloom Boston Common ) tend to look exactly the same. In the end

Extractions: "The benefits to the gardens are tremendous," Lanza said. "This has been a very difficult row to hoe. There have not only been attacks on what we want to do, but on ourselves as well. If we can't do what we plan to do, we will probably sell." The strip that Lanza wants to buy represents about 10 percent of the gardens. Lanza wants to roughly double the size of his house. Lanza said that, if he sells, the hilly lot behind his house could be developed, which could be a loss for the neighbors. He pointed to a similar lot in the neighborhood on 22nd Street between Missouri and Connecticut streets, where a developer is building a four-story complex that is casting shadows on residents of Missouri Street.
