I have a new band crush: My Chemical Romance. Dark, heavy, huge choruses. Love it. The video for "Helena" is total eye candy, and I could watch it over and over again. I love that they used real dancers, the setting is a funeral, and the title character emerges from her coffin to do a deathly ballet en pointe, complete with goth eyeliner. Theirs will be the first CD I've bought in a really long time. The gig Wednesday night felt really good. The place was packed, despite a late-March slushfest! I think most of the attendees were there to see Leah Siegel, who was revered by a near-silent crowd that talked its way through most of my set. Not that I minded. Some of you were paying attention. Leah and I are trying to schedule another show together soon. Thursday night I was invited by my friend Trisha to the Broadway opening of All Shook Up, which sets Elvis songs with a vaguely Shakespearean storyline. It's gonna be a huge hit. Cheyenne Jackson is electrifying in the lead role of Chad, the motorbike-riding "roustabout" (I want to go back and study his moves and voice, he's that good), and his love interest Jenn Gambatese won me over as Natalie too.

Up early this Sunday morning to shoot a trailer for an indie film called Icarus Fool. I'm sitting at the north entrance to Washington Square Park, near the beautifully restored arch, which I haven't seen since the scaffolding was removed. Things got off to a rocky start this morning when I left my apartment in Hell's Kitchen to get on my bike and ride to the location. Someone had tried to break the big New York lock on my bike, which was chained to its usual railing outside. The would-be thief was unsuccessful, but there's a nail or something jammed in the keyhole, so I had to take the train to set. My character is a messenger/musician, and we were planning to use my bike in the first scene we're shooting today. Now they're scrambling to find another bike as well as another location, since no one realized the city is now enforcing the 'no bikes' signs in the park.
