Become a Vendor Become an Employee Make a Compliment Ottawa, Ontario Wednesday, November 5, 2003 In my case, I'm involved in supporting early years development and care because it's an economic investment that requires more federal, provincial and municipal government action. Through our work at RBC Financial Group, my colleagues and I can help influence public policy and public opinion. After all, the development of human capital at an early age is key to a successful economy. I'm involved because it's an economic investment that needs corporate/business action. As a business leader, I have a responsibility to push the envelope on high priority issues - and what's more important than children? I'm also involved because it's an economic investment that requires more community action - kids are everybody's business. Integrated early years programming is one of the best investments communities can make. As a children's advocate (and parent), the only way to make a difference is to get involved and get others involved!

It was a short conversa-tion because no matter what question Jackie asked, Juan- Tomas said, "It's fine," or "I'm fine," or "That's fine." She got frustrated and said it seemed useless to even talk to him be-cause he's always just fine. "Well, I am," he replied. "Oh yeah?" Jackie retorted. "What about the time you were dying?!" "I was fine then too," said Juan-Tomas. This could seem like a very simple, meaningless com-munication, one that would be easy to forget or overlook. Yet, it says so much. How many times do we say that everything will be fine... when I get out of debt... when I lose the ten pounds I gained... when I can quit this job... when Mercury goes direct. We humans have these large, complex brains that have done many wonderful things and yet, they are completely baffled when it comes to simply being here and being present in each moment. Somehow we feel the need to have things to think about, things to do. Right here, in this moment, is not enough for us. I have often been guided to this place of being by animals and, once there, I realize it is more than enough.
Extractions: From Church Records held at Botwood These records came from about 18 original, large volumes which were stored at the Anglican Church in Botwood. The earlier records were found in a box in the basement while preparations were on-going for the 50th anniversary of the Church. Some of volumes survived a fire and a lot of the pages were partially burned. I was fortunate to be able to take the volumes home to transcribe them ..... this is very unusual with Church records. These volumes will be stored either in the Anglican Archives for Central Newfoundland or the Botwood Heritage Society Archives. I copied all the records on diskettes to be stored at the Church to eliminate any further handling of the fragile pages. A lot of the handwriting was hard to decipher so there are bound to be errors.
