King Of The Paranormal (Doubt And About) What s up with the larry king Show s outrageous promotion of UFOs, psychics, Broadcast on CNN, the July 1, 2003 installment of larry king Live was a http://www.csicop.org/doubtandabout/larryking/
Extractions: Broadcast on CNN , the July 1, 2003 installment of "Larry King Live" was a sight to behold. The program, in King's words, explored "the incredible events of 56 years ago at Roswell, New Mexico." What most likely crashed at Roswell in 1947 was a government spy balloon, but the panel of guests assembled on King's show preferred a more lurid version of events. Jesse Marcel, Jr., son of a Roswell intelligence officer, claimed that just after the crash, his father showed him bits of debris that "came from another civilization." Glenn Dennis, who worked at a Roswell funeral home at the time, said a military officer called him to ask about the availability of small caskets (i.e., for dead aliens). Later Denis, obviously a UFO enthusiast, observed out of nowhere that the pyramids in Egypt had recently been "[shut down] for three or four days and no tourists going out there on account of the sightings."

Extractions: Rodney Glen King (known to friends as "Glen") found himself thrust into the spotlightboth literally and figurativelyafter he led California Highway Patrol officers on a high speed chase through the north Los Angeles suburbs. The video of King's beating by LAPD officers, made possible by the overhead illumination of a police helicopter, shocked the nation and led to two criminal trials and a civil trial against the officers. The beating on March 3, 1991 was not King's first difficulty with the lawand it wouldn't be his last. In 1987, King received probation after pleading "no contest" to charges for beating his wife. Two years later, King received a two-year sentence after robbing a convenience store and assaulting the store clerk. He was paroled on December 27, 1990. In the years following the trials that made him famous, King would again face charges of wife beating (this time his second wife, as well as his out-of-wedlock daughter) and multiple charges of driving while intoxicated. King's problems with the law stemmed more from his heavy drinking than from any criminal bent. Tim Fowler, King's parole officer, described Rodney as "basically a decent guy with borderline intelligence but [who] could function in society. His problem was alcoholism. He had been drinking from an early age." Friends described King as usually friendly and gentle, but strong-willed and capable of blowing up after drinking.

Extractions: Cable News Network calls itself The Most Trusted Name In News. One of CNNs best rated shows, the award-winning Larry King Live, has contributed to that trust with candid interviews of such prominent guests as Tony Blair, Bill Clinton, Vladimir Putin, Jimmy Carter and Margaret Thatcher, as well as by hosting the memorable 1993 debate between Al Gore and Ross Perot. But host Larry King has undermined the impact of those interviews by also repeatedly inviting a motley collection of UFO enthusiasts, paranormalists, seers and mediums to his show. Writing in the current issue of Skeptical Inquirer, columnist Chris Mooney pulls no punches. CNN may be a respected news network, he says, but in its irresponsible presentation of paranormal topics and themes, Larry King Live compromises that reputation. What apparently set Mooney off was a show this summer that King claimed would explore the incredible events of fifty-six years ago at Roswell, New Mexico. His guests included the same group of eccentrics, publicity seekers and losers who for decades have been living off the legend that an spacecraft crashed near Roswell, that bodies of little aliens were found and spirited away by sinister Federal agents and that the that Feds ever since have been guilty of a monumental cover-up.

CNN expects that Bob Costas will fill in for Larry King about 20 times a year. His first appearance is set for Sunday. (Jennifer Graylock / Ap) Both Costas and CNN/U.S. President Jonathan Klein denied that this makes Costas the heir apparent to King on CNN's most watched program. King, 71, celebrated his 20th anniversary at the helm of the daily interview show last week. "People will speculate about what they want, but that is not my intention," Costas, 53, told The TV Column, adding that he intends only to "do this and do it well and have a good time" and that he's "always liked the long-form interview format."

A summa cum laude graduate of Colorado College, Larry earned his law degree at the University of California, Davis, where he earned distinction as an editor of the Law Review. Upon graduation, Larry received an appointment as a judicial law clerk to the Colorado Court of Appeals, returned to Colorado and became a licensed Colorado attorney. He continued in public law as a trial attorney and then supervising prosecutor for the Boulder, Colorado District Attorneys Office. After entering private practice, Larry served as a part-time Colorado Municipal Court Judge, and then limited his representation for many years, solely to divorce and family law cases. Throughout his experience as a matrimonial attorney, Larry grew steadily more disenchanted with the adversarial system as it applied to Colorado divorce and family law. Larry began to transform his family law practice. He undertook formal training in divorce and custody mediation at the renowned CDR program in Boulder, Colorado. He founded his mediation practice, Divorce Resolutions®, in 1992, and his family law practice then evolved to emphasize mediation for several years. In 1995, he made the decision to limit his work solely to Colorado divorce and family mediation. Larry has now assisted more than sixteen hundred couples through the process of mediating their Colorado divorce, family or parenting dispute.
