He has starred on the ABC daytime drama General Hospital as Luke Spencer from 1978 to 1984 and from 1993 to present. Geary's character began as a "hit man" and later as a rapist who fell in love and subsequently married his victim, Laura Webber (played by Genie Francis). The character became so popular that the writers turned Luke Spencer into a protagonist. Spencer and Webber's 1981 wedding began what was arguably the greatest love affair in the history of General Hospital, if not daytime television. The early 1990s saw Luke Spencer in a series of nearly improbable storylines seemingly lifted from the pages of a spy novel, which only served to further the character's popularity. He also portrayed Luke's lookalike cousin Bill Eckert on General Hospital from 1991 to 1993.

Anthony brought Luke Spencer back to the viewing audience on October 29, 1993, and received his third Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in May, 2000 (he also took home the award in May, 1999). He was also nominated in 1997 and 1998. Anthony has performed in more than 50 stage productions throughout the United States. His appearance in the one-man show, "Human Scratchings," performed to sold-out houses in Los Angeles in 1996, earned him unanimous critical acclaim and a DramaLogue Award. His other extensive theatrical credits include roles in productions of "The Wild Duck," "The Inspector General," "The Cat's Paw," "The Glass Menagerie" and "Barabbas" at the Los Angeles Theater Center. In addition he toured with a production of "Jesus Christ Superstar," portraying the title role. He also portrayed Octavius Caesar, opposite Lynn Redgrave and Timothy Dalton, in a production of Shakespeare's "Antony and Cleopatra" for PBS and the BBC.
