And so is Ephiny. I know how much it can affect a woman, after having had a child. Things seem to become clearer as to why you're here. Also, you soften up a lot, and that's what happened to Ephiny. It was great to be able to have played a hard-*ss*d woman who was incredibly one-sighted, who has now been able to incorporate the antithesis of that into her personality. All she could see at one time was wanting to be Queen she was supposed to have had the Right of Caste and she didn't get it. Gabrielle and Xena showed her there was more than that, then having a child with someone who was supposed to be the enemy all her ideals have completely flipped around.
Extractions: August 29, 1998 I'd read the reports from Danielle Cormacks' few convention appearances so far. My general impression was that she was very blown away by the crowds of fans, a bit overwhelmed, and kind of quiet and shy under the tide of people. I guess she got used to it. When Danielle was introduced, a little woman swathed in sweats, a towel wrapped around her head, and wraparound mirror shades strutted onto the stage, grabbed the microphone, and announced in a crazy Bronx-ish accent "Yo! I'm gonna do a rap for you!" She broke into four or five verses about Ephiny, the amazons, and Xena and Gabrielle. I spent most of it rubbing my eyes in disbelief. She then had the crowd sing the classic striptease song while she peeled off the sweats and headgear to reveal Danielle looking much more like we've seen her on our TV screens. She bounced all over the stage during her questions and answers and got incredibly goofy with us all. She blamed it on the huge amounts of chocolate she'd eaten - "That KitKat's kicking in now" - but she sure seemed to have a lot of fun. She told us she was getting too cocky with the convention scene now and predicted that we were going to knock her knees out from under her, but it never happened. She managed to hop on top of anything thrown her way. [Sharon Delaney, by the way, reported to us later that Danielle made up that rap and the outfit on her way to the convention. Impressive!]

After a slew of film and television roles, she is set to return to the stage playing New Zealandâs most famous and enigmatic writer in The Case of Katherine Mansfield, a one-woman play scripted from the writerâs journals, letters and literature. Apart from the odd short story, most Kiwis know Mansfield because of her friendship with the notoriously louche Bloomsbury Group. It has been a very interesting journey delving into Mansfieldâs sexuality; that seems to be the hook that most people would look to hang their interest on, with regards to her life. But she was never really overtly sexual in a social environment. Even when sheâs hanging out with the Bloomsbury Group â D H Lawrence and [his wife] Frieda â thereâs a journal entry where she chastises the way that they are constantly talking about sex. She finds that behaviour quite abhorrent.
