He knows that his true self is the self portrait which he has locked away in the attic. The portrait that with each passing day grows hideous with decay and sin. A dark picture of his soul.

Richard Connell - Biography This time we had mary astor in a drama. She played a young lady down on her luck who fell into the hands of a gambler who found her just as scrumptious as http://www.intercoursewiththedead.com/conbio.htm
Extractions: Richard Edward Connell was the son of Richard Edward Connell Sr. (1857-1912) and Mary Miller Connell. He was born on October 17, 1893 in Poughkeepsie, New York. He had three sisters. His father was a reporter and the editor of the Poughkeepsie News-Press . In 1892 his father became the police commissioner of Poughkeepsie. This was a stepping stone to a political career. In 1892 Richard Sr. made an unsuccessful bid for Congress. He failed two more times when he ran for the State assembly in 1898 and 1900. In 1900 and 1904 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. In 1910 Richard's father finally won an election and he served as a Congressman from New York. It was while his father was editor of the Poughkeepsie News-Press that Richard Jr. started writing. He was only ten years old. He covered baseball games and was paid 10 cents a game for his stories. His love of baseball would later resurface in short stories like The Umps and Pitchers Are Peculiar . By the time he was 18 he had been made city editor of the paper and his pay had risen to a whopping $16 a week. Richard went to Georgetown College for a year. In 1910, when his father was elected to the House of Representatives, Richard left college to become his father's secretary. Sadly, only two years later, in 1912, Richard Edward Connell Sr. died. Richard Sr. had spent a lifetime devoted to the region where he was born. As child he had attended St. Peter's Parochial School in Poughkeepsie and when he died he was buried in St. Peter's Cemetery in Poughkeepsie. But his son, Richard Jr., would travel the world and leave Poughkeepsie far behind him.

Extractions: MaryAstor.jpg Mary Astor Born Lucile Vasconcellos Langhanke in Quincy, Illinois , Astor was signed to a Hollywood contract at the age of 14 after winning a beauty contest . She was selected as one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars in . She achieved success playing opposite John Barrymore in Beau Brummell ) and Don Juan ), and her stature as a film star continued to grow steadily with the advent of "talking pictures". By 1936, her career had begun to lose momentum until she became the subject of a widely publicised scandal. During divorce proceedings her estranged husband produced a diary Astor had kept, which detailed among other events, her affair with playwright George Kaufman . The sexually explicit diary was entered as evidence in court, and extracts were published in newspapers throughout the world. Determined to separate her private and professional lives, Astor refused to apologise and her career was renewed by the huge level of publicity. She appeared in Dodsworth ) and The Prisoner of Zenda ) and the success of both films, and the public's acceptance of Astor, assured the studios that she was still a viable commercial property.

Extractions: Why films have been lost: Actually, films that are lost are really presumed lost. These movies may be tucked away in an old movie theatre somewhere, or forgotten in somebodys basement. Its estimated that about half of all the shorts and features made before 1950 have disappeared. Roughly 85% of the movies made during the silent period, before 1928-29, are missing films! There are several reasons films have become lost. The major reason is because of the film stock used before 1951. The stock material is called nitrocellulose, or nitrate base. Nitrate provides a beautiful, sharp image on the movie screen. However, nitrate is highly flammable. Many fires broke out in projection booths, destroying reel after reel of film. With time, nitrate film decomposes. It turns into a gooey substance and then drys into brown dust. The best way to save a nitrate film print is to transfer it on to safety film. Every once in a while, you hear about a lost film discovery. 1922's "Beyond the Rocks" starring Rudolph Valentino and Gloria Swanson was discovered by the Nederlands Filmmuseum in Amsterdam in April of 2004. This was of particular interest to historians and archivists because it was the only time these two screen legends appeared together. Presumed lost for years, it was found among a bunch of film cans donated to the museum by a private collector.

Extractions: REHupa Home Page Robert Ervin Howard Goes To The Movies compiled by Rusty Burke INTRODUCTION ROBERT E. HOWARD GOES TO THE MOVIES ALPHABETICAL LISTING OF MOVIES AND ACTORS MENTIONED BY REH THE MOVIES ... BIBLIOGRAPHY INTRODUCTION This all started innocently enough. Browsing through a biographical dictionary, I wondered if Francis X. Bushman, the silent film star, might have been a model for Francis X. Gordon, El Borak. That speculation appeared in Seanchai 42 (REHupa 90). That led me to try to track down some information on the movies Howard mentioned in letters to Harold Preece, three of which had appeared in Jonathan Bacon's Runes of Ahrh-Eih-Eche (1976). A preliminary effort in this direction was included in Seanchai 43 (REHupa 91). Along the way, I happened to mention to Glenn Lord what I was doing, and he told me he'd found mention of some old movies in Howard's letters to Clyde Smith, and offered to send me the relevant passages. He also offered to let me reprint the only known full-length film review by Howard, "Surrender: Your Money or Your Vice," which had previously appeared in a fanzine called Trumpet , in 1968. So I began looking for information on all the films Howard mentions.
