Some Singer Families In Pennsylvania World Connect Family Tree Lee, White, Briant, Zerbe Families by Briant Hamor Lee James J. SINGER, born 25 Nov 1850 (fcp), a physician in Connellsville, http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sengercm/sinpa.html
Extractions: Two books have been published on the descendants of John Singer of Dauphin Co., PA. One covers Conrad Singer / Sanger and his descendants (hs1) and the other John Singer and his descendants (hs2). When questions came up recently (2002) about the ancestors of some Singers, they did not seem to be mentioned in either of these books. A quick review of currently available Federal Census data revealed a number of other families lived in the county 1790-1850 at least some apparently not derived from the children of John and his wife. Although there seems to be considerable additional data on these Singer families on the Internet, it is scattered. Thus, this web site was compiled to try to provide much of this material and the references in one place.

Extractions: October 12, 2000 Memo to fellow NBS members from Dave Bowers This file includes some introductory "stuff" to a book I and others are preparing in connection with the S.S. Central America. My hope is to create a text that will have an interesting, in depth view of the Gold Rush, assayers, coiners, etc., drawing nearly completely on original source material of the 19th century. It also includes the full text of Chapters 5-7. This file includes: 1. Introductory notes, style notes, etc. 2. Authors introduction. 3. CHAPTERS 5-7: Jump way ahead to sections that include info on two numismatists who were part of the Gold RushEzekiel I. Barra and Caleb Lyon (plus a lot of other info you might want to skip). Another numismatist, Philadelphia physician Lewis Roper (whose coins were auctioned in 1851) is said to have been part of the Gold Rush, and to have been lost at seabut I have not included him as I cannot find a lost ship sunk in 1850 on its way back from California (or the Panama connection) that might be a candidate. This is not a "numismatists in the Gold Rush" book; such info is included only as a matter of peripheral interest.

Nice. 1850 PA census - Montgomery Co, Franconia Twp (roll 799), p. 8. 1734 Philadelphia County Taxables lists him in Franconia Twp. Ordained preacher at Franconia but was silenced, tradition states, for intemperance (Oberholtzer/Ford p. 47) It is said that the meeting at Franconia called him to preach, but that he refused preferring to follow his occupation of cattle dealer and butcher. (Clemmer p. 208) Christian inherited from his grandfather, Christian Meyer, Sr., the homestead farm of 100 acres, the greater part of which is now owned and occupied by Joseph Drissel. To this property he added by subsequent purchases until he owned in all 232 acres. On Oct. 9, 1765, he purchased of David Stribe and wife 50 acres and 66 perches, which is now owned by Henry Oberholtzer. He next purchased on May 27, 1767, from the widow of his uncle Samuel Meyer, the 50 acres originally belonging to the homestead, with buildings and improvements, where William K. Moyer now lives, and on May 23, 1770, he purchased from Nicholas Schwenk and wife Barbara 32 acres and 67 perches, making in all 232 acres and 132 perches, and was rated for that number of acres in 1776. The last purchase now belongs to John A. Kulp. (Moyer p. 28, published in 1896)
