Extractions: Editor s Notes A great feeling is to get to this point when we can finish up a issue of Loose Branches and Roots and get it ready for the printers. I always enjoy looking at the materials for each issue and deciding what to use and what to put in to a future issue. Each issue has a every name index to help every one searching for what has been done. I many times spend lots of time looking to see what has been done and where the corrections need to be credited to. Several weeks ago I received a very interesting query, regarding a Finnell man who was born in New York City and the Family Tradition was that the mans Grand Father had southern roots. Sounded interesting and I started out with a quick search of the Indexes and found no reference to any of the names suggested. The individual was born in 1911 in Brooklyn as I started with a search of the Brooklyn New York Census for 1910. Finding the Family here was great as it helped to solve the Family Puzzle. The alleged grandfather with southern ties was the Father in law living with the Family. Hew was born in South Carolina as where his parents. All the others in the household was born in New York. The Family Tradition was right it was just credited to the wrong side of the Family. There will be a good article on this Family as we finish some additional research.

Bermuda's art history is rich. A major reason is because when the USA and Great Britain were not the firm allies they are now, Bermuda underwent some profound changes. Many areas were denuded of foliage and developed into military fortifications. The military artists sent to Bermuda during the 1800's by the British Army or Royal Navy to paint vivid scenes of Bermuda as it went through these changes. They included Joseph Blackburn, Thomas Driver, E. G. Hallewell, Flag Captain Sir Michael Seymour and Lieutenant General Gaspard Le Merchant Tupper (one of whose many Bermuda works is "The Admiral Going to Sea").
