LSU Libraries -- Literature, Reading, And Writing Butler, Louise, 18661951. Writings, 1892-1950. 685 items, 3 ms. vols., Location Impr. Juvenile Editor and proprietor of Hayden s Miscellany, http://www.lib.lsu.edu/special/guides/literature.html
Extractions: Chronological Index INTRODUCTION This guide describes collections documenting literature, reading, and writing in the Louisiana and Lower Mississippi Valley Collections (LLMVC) at LSU. It includes the papers of authors, novelists, playwrights, poets, journalists, editors, critics, professors, and historians as writers . Materials in the collections include drafts of literary works (novels, short stories, essays, and plays, among other genres) correspondence, diaries, biographical sketches, research materials, galley proofs, and book reviews. "Literary works" as defined here include popular works, poetry transcribed in diaries, and other common efforts at literary expression. Collections dealing with reading and publishing are also described in this guide. Diary-writing in itself (apart from diaries that contain literature or are the diaries of literary authors) does not qualify a collection for inclusion in this guide. Other diaries will be found in the guides to plantations and women's collections. Most of the collections are from Louisiana, but there are also materials from other areas of the Lower Mississippi Valley. In addition to these resources, please see the
LSU Libraries -- Women's History Butler, Louise, 18661951. Writings, 1892-1950. 685 items, 3 ms. vols., Dixon was managing Editor of the Baton Rouge Morning Advocate from 1949-1970. http://www.lib.lsu.edu/special/guides/womens.html
Extractions: Chronological Index INTRODUCTION This guide describes manuscript collections documenting women's history in the Louisiana and Lower Mississippi Valley Collections at LSU. It includes the papers of women, women's organizations, family papers with significant bodies of women's papers in them, and other collections that document women's history in one way or another. LSU is fortunate because it collected women's papers very early, perhaps without systematically trying to do so. Women's voices, often buried in plantation collections and Civil War papers, have emerged from obscurity only in recent decades. Researchers coming to LSU can study the letters and diaries of plantation mistresses and teachers, the papers of women writers, and the papers of black women, among other sources. A number of our women's collections have been recently microfilmed by University Publications of America in its series on Southern Women and their Families, making these collections more widely accessible. Collections in this guide are listed alphabetically, with a chronological index after the alphabetical listing. Brief descriptions include references to sources for additional informationeither the
Women Of Distinguished Service One of the most obvious is a Wall display such as used at the General Conference Louise Kleuser 1890 1976. Bible worker, pastor, evangelist, Editor, http://wm.gc.adventist.org/Pages/women_distinguished_service.html
Extractions: When a great and decisive work is to be done, God chooses men and women to do this work, and it will feel the loss if the talents of both are not combined. What It Is Adventist Review , as chairperson. The committee consisted of women of various ethnic backgrounds or who had served the church in various divisions of the world. It was the mission of this committee to pick about thirty of the most important women in our church's history. Some women who were outstanding leaders, directors of General Conference departments, GC treasurers, etc., were not pictured because they are already pictured, or should be, by other General Conference departments. Once the women were chosen, the search for photos began. These women were humble workers, and with few exceptions, those who served before the twentieth century left nothing more than a snapshot, if that. A great deal of research effort and photographic expense was required to come up with the photos. At the time the pictures were hung, all of those in the 1946-1996 section were living, but since then two of the women, Betty Holbrook and Elsa Luukkanen, have died. When Rose Otis, Women's Ministries Director, left the General Conference Department to go to the North American Division, her picture was added to the display. In the display, no dates are given for those who are still living.
The Ranch At Walnut Creek Crossing By Louise Barry, Summer 1971 A watch tower was frequently built on a prominent corner of the Wall, In Apriland May, 1861, the Council Grove Press Editor described Santa Fe trail http://www.kshs.org/publicat/khq/1971/71_2_barry.htm
Extractions: This account was published in a late-July, 1855, issue of the Occidental Messenger , Independence, Mo.: Mr. Wm. Allison and Booth, known as famed prairie men, have determined to make a settlement at Walnut Creek on the Santa Fe road. A short time since . . . they started on an expedition to the gold region; their mules and provisions giving out, and not being able to purchase any on the road from any train, they abandoned the idea of going further toward the Wichita diggings, and returned here, determined to settle on Walnut Creek. Booth left a month or two since, and Allison this week, and from last reports of Booth's progress he was busily engaged in building houses and carrals etc. The Occidental Messenger In a later-day account, ex-cavalryman Robert M. Peck (who first crossed Walnut creek in 1857) commented on the "frontier 'ranches'" which were "mere trading posts" and gave this generalized description:
