Extractions: AUTHOR INDEX INDEX OF SUBJECTS Subject headings are sorted letter by letter to the first stop (a space is not regarded as a stop) but prefixes like "archbp., bp., ld., sir" and county identifiers are ignored in sorting. British places precede the identical names of localities elsewhere. Headings inside inverted commas like 'BLUE PENCIL' are technical terms of which the meaning is discussed in the items referred to. It was not thought necessary here to use bold to distinguish the entries like BIBLE that are the same as the subject heading in the classified arrangement of the text of the Supplement.

One of the first acts of Cromwell after the English Revolution was the colonisation of Ireland. In a sense the conservatism of the English working class is an outcome of the proceeds of colonisation, and thus the question of solidarity with the Irish national struggle has been at the heart of the problem of socialism and the working class in Britain to this day. The Magna Carta was possibly the first legal document to institute the rights of the citizen against the Divine Right of Kings in European history. Although defending the rights of the nobility who forced King John to sign it, rather than those of the common people, the Magna Carta is an important milestone in the emergence of concepts of Right later to characterise modern, bourgeois society. Post Message (Redirected from List of Socialists The following is a list of self identified socialists . Individuals qualify for this list if known by reason of their identification as socialists in whole or major part. Therefore individuals who might be socialists but who are not known as a result of that are not listed unless their socialism is of importance to their work or their espousal of socialism has become a source of interest in the individual. The list is by date of birth and can be searched by name. Other lists of ideological currents within socialism or by party affiliation can be found below. Some of the listed individuals have been or were committed to other ideologies either before or after their identification with a socialist ideology. Where such individuals have rejected all forms of socialism and socialist ideology in favour of a competing political ideology they will not be found on this list unless they are only known by reason of their time spent in the socialist movement. Given that the boundaries between different ideological currents within socialist movements and definitions of socialism are fiercely contested few will agree as to the inclusion of all the individuals on this list. Some individuals often regarded as socialists by ideological opponents of socialism have been excluded from the list where there is no substantive reason for considering the individual to have been or to be a socialist other than on the basis of such opponents.
