Cirillo e diede l'origine al cirillico moderno. rinnovamento della lingua liberandola dallâinfluenza della tradizione bizantina. Da questo filone letterario attingeranno i poeti della Rinascita Nazionale. Paisij di Hilendar Stojko Vladislavov, autore della prima opera pubblicata, â Nedelnik Insieme al movimento per la rinascita acquista importanza la questione della lingua attraverso lo studio e la normalizzazione del linguaggio del popolo. Nel 1835 Vasil Aprilov , (1789-1847) apre a Gabrovo la prima scuola bulgara il cui insegnamento viene condotto completamente in lingua bulgara.
