Annaei Senecae Cordubensis poetae gravissimi tragoedias decem; scilicet Herculem Furentem, Herculem Oetaeum, Medeam, Hippolytum, Oedipum, Thebidem, Thyestem, Troades, Agamemnonem, Octaviam, ampplissima adversaria, quae loco commentarii esse possunt. Ex bibliotheca Martini Antonii Delrio. First edition of the commentary and notes by Martin Antoine Delrio (1551-1608) on ten tragedies by Seneca together with an edition of these texts. In his commentary, knwon for its modern approach, Delrio cites not only a great number of ancient greek and Latin authors but also many contemporary humanists, citing from the works of poets, scientists, jurists etc., like Petrarch, Lodovico Dolce, Ortelius, Justius Lipsius etc. Delrio also includes autobiographical comments and a list of sources, ancient and modern. The Flemish theologian and Jesuit scholar Delrio is known for his influential work on witchcraft and magic: Disquisitionum magicarum libri sex (Louvain, 1599).
