Extractions: This paper looks at the theory of evolution proposed in 1859 by Charles Darwin in The Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection: or the Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle for Life . Given this theoretical foundation, can this evolutionary model be applied to advances in technology? Advances in technology have made possible new forms of information exchange available to humans. The Internet and cyberspace, made available through technology, may also be examined as evolving frontiers. What of the cybernauts (humans) that explore cyberspace, will exposure to this new frontier cause them also to evolve? This is but an introduction to the idea of technological and cultural evolution, based upon the model of biological evolution. The reader will be directed throughout this paper to resources of information, both physical and electronic. Introduction Charles Darwin's classic theory of evolution, with its primary mechanism of natural selection, has contributed greatly to the understanding of humankind and the external world in which humans live. As it has been observed of forms, be they the forms of living beings or forms of technology, in our external world, new forms result from changes that either help or hinder further adaptation to and continued survival in the surrounding biological or social environments. These changes in humans, biological or social, are mirrored by the technological advancements of human civilization. For example, an evolutionary model can be applied to the development of technology throughout the ages. Each age builds upon the discoveries of the previous age resulting in a constant change in technology which helps humankind to adapt to or cope with their environment. The technology of today, a product of the

@U2: U2 Connections - William Gibson Some other connections worth mentioning in a 1994 interview with Giuseppe Salza,Gibson talks about Edge teaching him some Internet tricks http://www.atu2.com/news/connections/gibson/
Extractions: @U2 Home NEWS U2 Connections: William Gibson by Angela Pancella Author William Gibson became one of the founders, if not the founder, of the genre that came to be known as "cyberpunk" by writing Neuromancer; his books often show off a darkly digital world, interactive and anarchic. That view of a computer-hacker-infested future (a future that was not too far off, as it turned out) was coaxed into reality with U2's money to become ZooTV. The Edge and Bono read a lot of Gibson before they planned this multimedia extravaganza, and Niall Stokes also mentions him in relation to the song "Zooropa" in Into the Heart: "'[Gibson] has this location,' Bono explains, 'the sprawl, he calls it, the city in the future where a lot of stuff is set.' Bono wanted to paint a similar kind of picture with noise."
