Applegate, authored the Critical Reading Inventory, published by Prentice-Hall. The inventory is designed to provide instruction about the use and interpretation of diagnostic procedures for the assessment of reading/thinking abilities. The stories included in the inventory are all original, and the questions assess students' literal, inferential and critical response to the stories. Reading specialists in several local school districts are currently using this inventory to help design instruction emphasizing higher-level thinking. Dr. Raquel Kennedy Bergen '89 , associate professor and chair of the Department of Sociology and holder of the John McShain Chair in Ethics, and Todd Krug, Living Learning coordinator, took a group of Saint Joseph's REPP (Rape Education Prevention Program) students to Lebanon Valley College to give a presentation on "hooking up" and date rape. The group spoke to approximately 40 students and university members about starting REPP on their own campus.
