A római táborok, városok környékén több olyan feliratos emlék került elõ, amely ezt bizonyítja. A zsidó lakosság részint kereskedõkként Rómából, részint közvetlenül Izrael területérõl, rabszolgákként települt az országba. Pannoniából ugyanis három légiót szállítottak át a rómaiak Júdeába, a Bar Kochba vezette szabadságharc (132135) leverése érdekében. Késõbb a csapatok kisegítõ egységként rabszolgákat hurcoltak magukkal állomáshelyükre, Aquincum ba (ma Budapest északnyugati része) és Savariá ba (a mai Szombathelyre). A pannon légiók izraeli jelenlétét a Bar Kochba utolsó végvára, Bethar mellett feltárt római emléktábla, valamint a Komárom mellett, egy római katona sírjából elõkerült és a Magyar Nemzeti Múzeum éremtárában látható Bar Kochba-érme bizonyítja. Így azon sem kell csodálkoznunk, hogy a mai Magyarország területén, már jóval a magyar honfoglalás (895) elõtt számottevõ zsidó közösségek mûködtek. Intercisa (a mai Dunaújváros) római kori maradványaiból egy emléktábla került elõ, amelyet Alexander Severus császár és anyja, Julia tiszteletére emelt idõszámításunk szerint 225 körül
