Box 27 Marshfield, Ma 02050 (Vietnam Veteran) web-site www.radiocom.net/History e-mail: smokeycheeseman@aol.com Dated: May - 2002 This list of Cemetery Veteran Names of the Town of Marshfield, Ma was done by walking through each Cemetery listing the names and by using all available public information. There are fifteen Cemeteries with in the Town of Marshfield and there are also some cemetery tombs that I have not gotten into but they are out there. These can be found in property deeds, and wills of property owners, like the Macomber tomb (off Summer Street), Ames tomb (off Church Street), Thomas tomb (Off King Phillips Path) White tomb (off Pleasant Street), and at one time there was a tomb on South River Road. There were about fifty graves that I could not find and there some markers that were un-readable. But worst then that some of these cemeterys are in a very sad state of conditions.

Extractions: ACADEMY, CALIF. The historic one-room Academy prairie schoolhouse, located one-quarter mile Northwest of the Academy Cemetery on the South bank of Dog Creek in a grove of oak trees, was established at the exact location of a much earlier settlement that would be renamed as as Academy in 1871. It would become the foundation for a first secondary school in Fresno County. James Darwin Collins, later sheriff, was the first teacher. He taught there until 1876. The reputation of the young schoolmaster drew many of the early pioneer families to the vicinity of this school where they established homes along the Upper Dry Creek in order to give their children the benefit of his teaching service paid for by tuition. In this way the Academy settlement grew large as it was built into a thriving community.

Dreamland Cemetery is divided into 2 sections "West" and "East" by the highway. Each section is further divided "North" and "South" by a road down the center of the cemetery. This is how we have divided the layout of the cemetery in our census. Further, each row was enumerated from the highway to the east or west. And from the north end of each row to the south end. It is meant ONLY as a GUIDE to the various southern lines who have been traced back to Thomas Harrington and Mary Whitmel as the progenitor of those lines. It may contain errors and omissions. These lines have many repeating names (Thomas, Sion, Drury, Whitmel, John, Charles, William...) and researchers have often confused one with another. All of the problem areas need to be resolved so that everyone will be operating from a correct set of facts.
