But since I learned that those miserable and accursed people do not cease to lure to themselves even us, that is, the Christians, I have published this little book, so that I might be found among those who opposed such poisonous activities of the Jews and who warned the Christians to be on their guard against them. I would not have believed that a Christian could be duped by the Jews into taking their exile and wretchedness upon himself. However, the devil is the god of the world, and wherever God's word is absent he has an easy task, not only with the weak but also with the strong. May God help us. Amen. Grace and peace in the Lord. Dear sir and good friend, I have received a treatise in which a Jew engages in dialog with a Christian. He dares to pervert the scriptural passages which we cite in testimony to our faith, concerning our Lord Christ and Mary his mother, and to interpret them quite differently. With this argument he thinks he can destroy the basis of our faith. This is my reply to you and to him. It is not my purpose to quarrel with the Jews, nor to learn from them how they interpret or understand Scripture; I know all of that very well already. Much less do I propose to convert the Jews, for that is impossible. Those two excellent men, Lyra and Burgensis, together with others, truthfully described the Jews' vile interpretation for us two hundred and one hundred years ago respectively. Indeed they refuted it thoroughly. However, this was no help at all to the Jews, and they have grown steadily worse.

Han var väl insatt i Occams nominalism enligt G Biel. Han menade att trots syndafallet hade människan kraft att söka frälsning genom sin fria vilja. Luther menade att människan var rättfärdigad endast genom tron och han trodde att Gud skulle genom sin nåd ge honom den Helige Andes gåvor: frälsning och evigt liv. Han tog på allvar doktrinen om Guds allsmäktighet och ensamrätt på den fria viljan. Han menade att prästerna undanhöll Guds budskap för människorna. Luther skrev oerhört mycket och producerade en skrift var 14:e dag. Den 31 oktober 1517 spikade han upp de 95 teserna på kyrkporten i Wittenberg. Teserna tog avstånd från säljandet av avlater. John Eck anklagade Luther för kätteri. Följande tre skrifter innehöll hans tros grunder, hans predikningar och hans centrala plats i historien: 1. Ingen kan komme forbi det faktum at Luther var et Guds redskap, en som vekket folket, en mann med stor betydig for alle tider. Luther rystet en hel verden. Martin Luther ble født i den tyske byen Eisleben i 1483. Som 14-åring reiste han hjemmefra for å gå på skole i Magdeburg. Som 18 åring begynte han sine studier ved universitet i Erfurt. Luther bestemte seg for å bli prest, og begynte på sine teologiske studier. Etter en stund gikk han inn i et augustinerkloster i Erfurt. Da Luther ble født var det lite åndelig lys. Bibelen ble betraktet for å være for hellig for det vanlige mennesket. Så hvordan kunne man begynne å tro på Gud? Det var religiøse demoner fra mørkets rike som kontrollerte menigheten. Så navnet «den mørke middelalder» var riktig navn gitt for den tiden. Mennesker som kalte seg selv kristne levde under strenge regler som gav inntrykk av at Gud var en ussel Gud. De til og med trodde at når det var tordenvær, så var lynene Guds vrede som kom ned fra himmelen. Luthers oppgave var å bringe fram åpenbaring, en guddommelig revolusjon av sannheten, for å ødelegge den åndelige uvitenhet som holdt mennesket bundet. I 1508 ble Luther overført til Wittenberg, stedet som senere skulle bli den lutherske reformasjonens vugge. Hvor enn Luther vendte seg, så han bare mørke. Den katolske veien førte ham ikke videre. Han gikk til skriftemål, han plaget seg selv, han leste og studerte, men alt var forgjeves, han fikk ingen fred, ingen frelsesvisshet. Det ble sagt at han trettet ut prestene fordi at han så ofte gikk til bekjennelsen.
