July kicks off The Blossom County Fair Series (Silhouette Romance), and A BRIDE FOR A BLUE RIBBON COWBOY , book one, is out this month! When friends and fellow authors, Teresa Carpenter Jill Limber and Crystal Green , proposed an idea for a series of books with a county fair plot, I jumped at the chance to participate. For one thing, I looked forward to working with such a creative and talented group. But I also loved the idea for the series, as well as the wonderful characters. For those of you familiar with my Silhouette Special Editions, you'll know that I enjoy writing about small towns, cowboys, rodeos and Texas. So exploring a budding romance between tomboy Cindy Lou Tucker and bronc rider, Blake Gray Feather, was just the kind story I like to write. But another reason I was eager to take part in the series is because I'd wanted to write a sweeter romance that my son could pass to his friends, while still providing an emotionally compelling story for my regular readers. And from what I've been told by readers and friends, A BRIDE FOR A BLUE RIBBON COWBOY does just that.

Nutting is returning to the Lodi Unified School District, where he will be teaching mathematics at Lodi High. Nutting is no stranger to the Lodi school district. He taught physical education at Delta Sierra Middle School for two years, and was the junior varsity boys basketball coach at Bear Creek High of Stockton before coming to GHS prior to the start of the 2002-03 season. Bear Creek is one of three high schools - along with Lodi and Tokay - that is part of the district. Another reason Nutting is returning to his former employer is because of the pay scale. Nutting cited that, if a teacher voluntarily leaves the Lodi school district but chooses to come back within 39 months after initial departure, the teacher retains their seniority. Nutting noted his salary at Lodi will be higher than what he was expected to make at GHS this upcoming school year.

Extractions: Judy Blume When I was growing up, I dreamed about becoming a cowgirl, a detective, a spy, a great actress, or a ballerina. Not a dentist, like my father, or a homemaker, like my mother and certainly not a writer, although I always loved to read. I didn't know anything about writers. It never occurred to me they were regular people and that I could grow up to become one, even though I loved to make up stories inside my head. I made up stories while I bounced a ball against the side of our house. I made up stories playing with paper dolls. And I made them up while I practiced the piano by pretending to give piano lessons. I even kept a notebook with the names of my pretend students and how they were doing. I always had an active imagination. But I never wrote down any of my stories. And I never told anyone about them. When I grew up, my need for storytelling didn't go away. So when my own two children started preschool I began to write and I've been writing ever since! My characters live inside my head for a long time before I actually start a book about them. Then, they become so real to me I talk about them at the dinner table as if they are real. Some people consider this weird. But my family understands.
