Extractions: JPC Editorial Office ... More On Research In addition to nanomaterials, the Zhang group is interested in organic conjugated polymers and photodrugs. Conjugated polymers are interesting fundamentally because of their quasi-one dimensional structures and conducting or semiconducting properties. They have many potential applications in emerging technologies including large area displays and light emitting diodes (LEDs). There are still many unresolved issues regarding the nature of the excitonic species in these polymers and its relation to the structure and functionality of the polymeric materials. This project is aimed at understanding the exciton dynamics and their dependence on important factors such as conjugation length, polymer molecular structure, embedding environment, and external electrical field. This understanding is critical to the long term goal of developing high efficiency electro-optical devices including polymer-based detector and LEDs.
