Extractions: Gutenberg EText Project This is an alphabetic index of the Gutenberg ETexts currently available on the EMBnet/CNB Server. Pressing [Download] will send you a compressed version of the file. This reduces disk space needed and transfer times to less than a half. However, some browsers will not automatically show compressed text on your screen. If the compressed copy doesn't show directly on your browser, then just press [Show] . This will uncompress the file and send you the plain text so you can read it directly. This way, however, it will take longer to download and will eat up more space on your disk. In any case, you should seriously consider downloading the compressed text to be able to read it offline later. If you do, remember the books are compressed: to uncompress any of the books we recommend you use GNU's gunzip program which is available from the finest sites in the Internet. $30,000 Bequest by Mark Twain/Samuel Clemens [Download] [Show] 1990 CIA World Factbook, The US CIA [Download] [Show] 1990 US Census [2nd], US Census Bureau

EA6VQ - TEP Propagation On 144 MHz. VERY interesting infos extracted from The Dawn of Amateur Radio in the UK and Greece Norman F. Joly. SV1DH comments. Most people know by now that SV1DH http://www.vhfdx.net/tep.html
Extractions: This page is a compilation of information I have got about TEP on 144 MHz. These openings seem to be relatively common between The Caribean and south America and between Japan and Australia, but very rare between Europe and southern Africa. According to the reported QSOs we can get to some statistical conclusions. A high level level of ionization in the F2 layer over the geomagnetic equator is required, but SFI is not completly determinant. QSOs have been reported with a Solar Flux lower than 100. A moderate geomagnetic activity seems to improve the possibilities of openings, but some QSOs have been reported even with an A index over 30 (Minor storm) No big antennas or power are extrictly required. Some QSOs have been made in FM using a ground-plane antenna and 10 w. only, although this is not the rule. Although signal strengths are usually high, the signal is subject to deep and rapid fading and very strong distortion (from multipathing and large Doppler motions). Doppler spread up to 2kHz has been observed on a CW signal. QSOs are possible on higher frequencies. A few QSOs have been reported even on 432 MHz !!

Extractions: The phenomenon which Thales had observed and recorded five centuries before the birth of Christ aroused the interest of many scientists through the ages. They made various practical experiments in their efforts to identify the elusive force which Thales had likened to a 'soul' and which we now know to have been static electricity. Of all forms of energy, electricity is the most baffling and difficult to describe. An electric current cannot be seen. In fact it does not exist outside the wires and other conductors which carry it. A live wire carrying a current looks exactly the same and weighs exactly the same as it does when it is not carrying a current. An electric current is simply a movement or flow of electrons. Benjamin Franklin, the American statesman and scientist born in Boston in 1706, investigated the nature of thunder and lightning by flying a child's kite during a thunderstorm. He had attached a metal spike to the kite, and at the other end of the string to which the kite was tied he secured a key. As the rain soaked into the string, electricity flowed freely down the string and Franklin was able to draw large sparks from the key. Of course this could have been very dangerous, but he had foreseen it and had supported the string through an insulator. He observed that this electricity had the same properties as the static electricity produced by friction. But long before Franklin many other scientists had carried out research into the nature of electricity.
