Whether they were here a short or longer time depended upon whether they came only for their own needs or for trade or sale to others. The Shawnee Indians of this area were in and out and usually cooperative and friendly. The territorial government began to take note of the importance of the salines about 1800, and on March 3, 1803, congress authorized the leasing of the licks and spring. During the same year territorial Governor Harrison negotiated a treaty with the Indians and then leased the salines to a Capt. Bell of Ky. (See the Salines of Southern Ill. by Prof. Geo. W. Smith)

Bull Sheet Monthly News Impossible Challenge by Herbert Harwood Jr. (1979, Barnard Roberts Company) . Called Washington Junction 18761923. MARC trains stop at this location http://www.bullsheet.com/news/mdvintagedepots.html
Extractions: Bulletin Board Main Page Vintage Rail Passenger Depots of Maryland The purpose of this feature is to identify vintage rail passenger depots of Maryland that are currently standing. "Vintage" comprehends construction prior to 1950. Replicas of vintage depots are included if their construction since 1950 was to accurately copy the vintage structure. Any pre-1950 depot that at some time was used as an assembly area for rail passengers to await transportation is included, even if it shared space with other functions, such as a store. Freight depots - unless they also served passengers - are not included. This updates the study introduced in the Bull Sheet in January 1991. Certain additional information was obtained from reference material including: Rails Along the Chesapeake by John Hayman (1979, Marvadel Publishers). Blue Ridge Trolley by Herbert Harwood Jr. (1963, Golden West Books). Royal Blue Line by Herbert Harwood Jr. (1990, Greenberg). 200th Anniversary of Carolina County (1974).
