Extractions: The next addition to the RK series is a 36" rendition of the classic Douglas C-47. The kit also includes the parts for the DC-3 civilian version. The DC-3 posted on our website is in the colors of the one my father flew, and in which I got my first "stick time" in an airplane at the tender age of five. The full-scale DC-3 was gently enough for a 5-year-old, and the RK DC-3 is also extremely gentle and stable. However, it's surprisingly fast, with a top speed even faster than our P-38, and a very efficient wing that allows it to cruise very comfortably on about 40% throttle. I've flown the C-47 successfully in a high school basketball gym, but it's probably best for outdoors and for larger flying areas. It's very smooth, very stable, and flies in an extremely scale-like manner.
Extractions: John Douglas Sutherland Campbell (9th Duke of Argyll) Politician and statesman. Born in London, Campbell was educated at Edinburgh Academy, Eton and the Universities of St. Andrews and Cambridge. He became Member of Parliament for Argyllshire (1868-71 and 1895-1900). Campbell married Princess Louise Caroline Alberta (1848 - 1939), a daughter of Queen Victoria, in 1871. He became Canada's youngest Governor-General in 1878, serving in this position until 1883. The couple made lasting contributions to Canadian society, especially encouraging the arts and sciences, promoting the creation of various institutions such as the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, the Royal Society of Canada and the National Gallery of Canada. Campbell served as Governor of Windsor Castle (1892 - 1914) and succeeded his father to the Dukedom of Argyll in 1900. The couple lived mainly at Kensington Palace (London), although their marriage was unhappy and gave rise to no children. He died on the Isle of Wight and was succeeded by his nephew.

First Congregational Church - Lloyd C. Douglas Spiritual Quest Named for one of First Church's noted former ministers. The programs include the presentation of annual awards in film and workshops and events dealing with spirituality in the entertainment industry. http://www.fccla.org/douglas.htm
Extractions: The Lloyd C. Douglas Spiritual Quest is named for one of First Church's noted former ministers. Through his many best-selling novels, such as Magnificent Obsession and The Robe , Lloyd Douglas wrote how existence can be transformed by faith and by the practice of giving to others. The programs of the Spiritual Quest include the presentation of annual awards in film and workshops and events dealing with spirituality in the entertainment industry. It was about this time that Lloyd C. Douglas's first novel, Magnificent Obsession, was published. A dispirited America, awakened from its dream, having lost faith in all institutions, picked up and read this story of a life of despair transformed by blind faith in a few words of wisdom from Jesus Christ. Magnificent Obsession gradually became a best seller, and eventually two major motion pictures. Over the next decade, Douglas produced eight more novels, each becoming a best-seller (several also being made into movies), each expounding a single principle put forth by Christ in his Sermon on the Mount. However, these books talked little of the Bible or of Christ himself; one would hardly have known they were the works of a man who had been a minister for 30 years. It was the advent of World War II and the United States' involvement in it that brought Douglas to the realization that he could not leave his spirituality sidelined any longer; such massive evil as the world was witnessing must meet God face-to-face. In 1942 he wrote The Robe, the story of a Roman soldier transformed by his encounter with Jesus Christ. In that context Douglas retold the life and teachings of Jesus, and recounted the history of the early church. This modernized retelling of a story we all thought we knew became his biggest international best-seller, and later an award-winning movie starring Richard Burton. Douglas' last novel was The Big Fisherman, a depiction of Simon Peter as a boisterous blue-collar everyman who thought he had no need for God until he found that God had a need for him.

Extractions: What is Refractive Surgery? The cornea and lens combine to focus visual images on the back of the eye. When the overall shape of the eye is incorrect or when the curvature of the cornea is incorrect, the visual images are not in focus. By surgically changing the corneal curvature, most or all of the blur can be eliminated. Laser In Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) and Photo-Refractive Keratectomy (PRK) are two surgical techniques which use lasers to reshape or change the curvature of the cornea. LASIK LASIK had its origins about thirty years ago and was originally developed to treat patients who had very poor vision due to corneal disease. It has now evolved into a successful technique for correcting refractive errors. The current procedure, done on an outpatient basis, involves both the use of conventional and laser surgery to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. LASIK can correct a much higher degree of nearsightedness with or without astigmatism than any other refractive procedure, with excellent results (99% of patients achieve 20/40 vision or better). In performing LASIK, eye drop anesthetic is used to numb the eye. The surgeon then uses a special instrument to create a flap and expose the inner layers of corneal tissue. The eye is then positioned under the excimer laser which has been computer programmed to remove microscopic amounts of the internal corneal tissue. Removal of the tissue changes the curvature of the cornea.
Extractions: General Douglas MacArthur (1880-1964 "You couldn't shrug your shoulders at Douglas MacArthur," observes historian David McCullough. "There was nothing bland about him, nothing passive about him, nothing dull about him. There's no question about his patriotism, there's no question about his courage, and there's no question, it seems to me, about his importance as one of the protagonist of the 20th century." Douglas MacArthur lived his entire life, from cradle to grave, in the United States Army. He spent his early years in remote sections of New Mexico , where his father, Arthur MacArthur Jr., commanded an infantry company charged with protecting settlers and railroad workers from the Indian "menace." As a teenager, Arthur had served with distinction in the Union Army, eventually earning the Congressional Medal of Honor for leading a courageous assault up Missionary Ridge in Tennessee . But he soon discovered that life in the post-Civil War U.S. Army held little of the glamour he knew during the war. These years were even harder for Douglas ' mother, Mary
