     Extractions: Impartió clases en las universidades de Minnesota, Chicago, Michigan y más tarde en Columbia donde le ofrecieron una cátedra. Según Dewey, a través de la razón es posible alcanzar la estabilidad a pesar de los problemas que plantea la realidad. Este filósofo sostiene que "el antiguo dualismo entre sensación e idea se repite en el dualismo usual de estructuras y funciones periféricas y centrales, el antiguo dualismo del cuerpo y el alma halla un eco distinto en el actual del estímulo y la respuesta". Con esta sentencia presenta una teoría basada en la funcionalidad. Su legado le presenta como un autor interesado en las cuestiones sociales y del hombre. Preocupado por los problemas del aprendizaje, su teoría en esta materia partía del estudio de los impulsos que, a juicio de Dewey, se podían controlar gracias al aprendizaje. Es autor de "Estudios de teoría lógica", "Democracia y educación", "Experiencia y naturaleza", "Lógica, teoría de la investigación" y "Problemas del hombre", entre otras obras.
