Bernardin De Saint-Pierre, Jacques Henri (1737-1814) Bernardin De SaintPierre, Jacques Henri (1737-1814) In it, Bernadin DeSaint-Pierre argued for a teleologically uncompromising form of pluralism http://www.daviddarling.info/encyclopedia/B/Bernardin.html
Extractions: French proponent of natural theology whose Harmonies de la nature , published posthumously in 1815, was widely read in both France and England. In it, Bernadin de Saint-Pierre argued for a teleologically uncompromising form of pluralism : "Nature has made nothing in vain, and what would be the use of desert globes?" He even claimed that comets are inhabited and that celestial objects have souls.
Extractions: Download this book In introducing to the Public the present edition of this well known and affecting Tale, the /chef d'oeuvre/ of its gifted author, the Publishers take occasion to say, that it affords them no little gratification, to apprise the numerous admirers of "Paul and Virginia," that the /entire/ work of St. Pierre is now presented to them. All the previous editions have been disfigured by interpolations, and mutilated by numerous omissions and alterations, which have had the effect of reducing it from the rank of a Philosophical Tale, to the level of a mere story for children.
