Extractions: The Yale Law School Association consists of all graduates. It was founded to strengthen both the ties among graduates and between graduates and the Law School. In more than fifteen states and cities across the United States and abroad, Yale Law School local associations provide social, intellectual, and professional opportunities for graduates. Whether it is a wine-tasting in Washington, D.C., a large group of New York City alumni enjoying the play Democracy www.aya.yale.edu/vys ) allows alumni to have a lifelong e-mail address. For more information, please contact the associate dean for alumni affairs at ylsalum@pantheon.yale.edu www.law.yale.edu/alumni A wonderful innovation for the Yale Law School community is the online Alumni Mentoring Network (AMN), which is accessible via the Career Development Office Web site ( www.law.yale.edu/cdo ). AMN offers both alumni and current law students the opportunity to seek out hundreds of graduates who have offered to provide career-related advice. Through the Web site, alumni can now join the network, current AMN members can update their information, and both alumni and students can search for mentors online by name, area of expertise, employer type, geographic location, and more. For more information about AMN, including password information for searching the network, please call 203.432.1690 or send an e-mail to ylsalum@pantheon.yale.edu

Extractions: Revised 22 Aug. 2005, Gen. 116 JOHN GRAVES OF FREDERICK CO., VA and His Descendants GENERATION 1 Nothing is presently documented for the ancestry and early life of John Graves (1). According to family legend, he was probably born in southern England and came to America in 1760 (or before). He settled in Frederick Co., VA,, near the Shenandoah River. This area later became part of Clarke and Warren Counties. John Graves leased land from Lord Fairfax's Manor of Leeds, on that part lying between Ashby's Gap and Manassas Gap, along the eastern side of the Shenandoah River. John and his sons spent much time in the courts trying to establish the boundries of their land. John first appeared in the court records in 1760. The history of that area of Virginia is full of land claims problems. About the time Joseph, John and Sarah moved to Coshocton Co., Ohio in the early 1800's, their four brothers are said to have gone to Ky., one later moving to Missouri. According to History of Norton Co., Kansas , "several members of their family have since distinguished themselves as lawyers, judges and congressmen....One of them represented the Louisville, Ky. district in Congress for several years. On Feb. 25, 1838, while a member of Congress, he shot and killed Mr. Cilly, a congressman from Maine, in a duel.

" My Dear Friend : "I may not be able to make you sensible of the heart-felt pleasure I experienced on receiving your kindly greetings once more, but hasten to thank you sincerely for them, and for your address which I have long wished for; and I assure you I am most happy in thus being enabled to return you my own greeting, fervent, fresh, and warm from the heart. It is a very long time since we have had any opportunity of communicating with each other directly, though I have been enabled to find traces of you and your labors, from time to time, which was more, I think, than you have been able to do of your old friend; for I am not so public a personage as yourself. "Your call upon Mrs. Stowe, and our dear, sainted president, and your labors connected with the army, and the Freedmen's Bureau, gave you a publicity that enabled me to observe you at your old vocation of helping on and doing good to your fellow-creatures, both physically and mentally. I was much pleased with Mrs. Stowe's enthusiasm over you. You really almost received your apotheosis from her. She proposed, I think, that you should have a statue and symbolize our American Sibyl.
