Extractions: Ask a Question Now! Tip: Robert O´Hara Burke Robert O´Hara Burke, 182061, Irish explorer of Australia. After service in the Belgian and Austrian armies he went (1853) as inspector of police to Melbourne. In 1860, with W. J. Wills and eight other whites, he left Menindee, on the Darling River, to cross the continent. Dissensions broke up the party, but the leaders reached the estuary of the Flinders River, in the Gulf of Carpentaria. On the return journey both Burke and Wills died from famine and exposure. Although the geographical achievements of the expedition itself were few, rescue parties seeking it added much to the knowledge of central Australia.

Hard Copies of such records are available for viewing and duplication during normal library hours. This compilation is from the notebooks of Amy Gavette and was done in the 1960s . It was manually typed on typing paper. Needless to say some of it is faded and coping it is difficult. If dates don't match you may have to go to the Roxbury Library and see the originals, they too are starting to fade. This is not a public library, they run on support from their patrons and the History room is run by donations, and for such a small room it is packed full of information on the town of Roxbury and some Delaware county information. Vesti Snyder,Roxbury Note Joyce Riedinger There are 5 columns to this database, the 5th used by only a few of the records. You will need to scroll. Also, because of the gigantic size of this database, it will be broken in many sections. The rest will be put online soon. Letters A - F
