East Lansing - College Delta Ray Stannard Baker (18701946, MAC 89), prominent muckraking journalist*,awarded honorary Dr. of Laws by MAC in 1917. Luther H. Baker (1872-?, MAC 93), http://kevinforsyth.net/ELMI/delta.htm
Extractions: Sources Map by the author, based on Newman, 1915 The "Delta," the triangular area of land extending west from the Michigan Ave. / Grand River Ave. junction to just west of Delta Street, was originally included as part of the Agricultural College when it was founded in 1855. At that time, Michigan Avenue's eastern end was at Harrison Road. When Michigan was extended to Grand River Avenue around 1863, the Delta was isolated from the rest of campus. With better proximity to the center of campus than Collegeville , the Delta became a prime candidate for faculty housing. Thus, in 1898 the State Board of Agriculture (the bureaucratic controller of the M.A.C.) platted the eleven-lot "College Delta," and housing quickly sprang up. Water and sewer service were provided by the college. Towar , p. 43]

Extractions: M ost people under forty have no idea what investigative journalism is. Those old enough to remember Watergate and Deep Throat think it started with Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward and All the Presidents Men. But investigative journalism has a rich and distinguished history in the United States. It started at least a century ago. But these writers werent called investigate journalists back then. They were muckrakers. One of the first of this breed of journalists was Upton Sinclair (18781968) Sinclair wrote in many genres, but gained particular fame for a novel, The Jungle (1906), which exposed inhumane and unsanitary conditions in the U.S. meat packing industry and caused the public uproar that ultimately led to the passage of the Meat Inspection Act in 1906. Starting in the late 19th century and continuing through the first generation of the 20th century, a trio of investigative journalists rose to national prominence. The trio consisted of Ray Stannard Baker, Lincoln Steffens, and Ida Tarbell, all writers for

Extractions: John Proctor is a man who is guilty of sin. He feels as though he cannot find Godâs grace and yet, he still is hesitant in whether or not he should sign a confession and return to life on the farm with his wife and children. His pride and the value that he has of his name lead him to the actions that he takes at the end of the story â ripping the paper that heâd signed to safe his life and as a result he managed to save his name, but the action also ended his life. It is through the actions of ripping the paper that Proctor finally can âsee some shred of goodness in John Proctorâ. It is as though ripping up his âget-into-heaven-free-cardâ of a confession is what will truly take him to heaven. By saving his name and standing up (or hanging) beside those who valued the truth, a not-so-religious man that had stopped attending church with the rest of his religious town, John Proctor has found his way into heaven and he is no longer a âfraudâ. Doing what was right in his eyes was his final escape. post comment Una noche, Katrina y sus amigas van a la una casa que todo dicen que tengo fanatismos.
