Extractions: Home More information Send to a colleague Who has signed ... Contact us On July 6, New York Times reporter Judith Miller was sent to jail for refusing to disclose her sources before the grand jury investigating the disclosure of the name of a CIA operative. Unless she changes her mind or the judge decides she will not be coerced into testifying, she will remain in jail until the grand jury's term expires in late October. This petition is here to allow journalists to show their support of Miller, by letting her know that we support her defense of journalists, journalism, and the public's right to know about its government. I support the decision of Judith Miller to refuse to disclose her confidential sources. Journalists are not above the law, but must be independent and free from government control if they are to effectively serve as government watchdogs.
