Henry Adams-his life, work and influence-is the subject of a colloquium and two lectures by Pulitzer-Prize winning author Garry Wills at Yale's Whitney Humanities Center (WHC), 53 Wall St., March 3-5. Henry Brooks Adams (1838-1918) was the great-grandson of President John Adams, the grandson of President John Quincy Adams and the son of Charles Francis Adams, the minister to England during the Civil War. Henry Adams worked as a personal secretary to his father, as a political journalist in Washington, D.C. and as a Harvard history professor. A prodigious writer, he is most widely known for his nine-volume history of the administrations of Jefferson and Madison, and for his autobiography, "The Education of Henry Adams." The colloquium consists of two panel discussions by scholars from multiple departments and fields of expertise. Both discussions will be held on March 3 in Room 208 of WHC, at 4 and 8 p.m. Yale College Dean Richard Brodhead will chair the first discussion, which focuses on "The Education of Henry Adams."
