Extractions: It is hard to believe Amy Frazier made her debut at Wimbledon as a sprightly teenager in the summer of 1988. Now at 32, she returns to SW19 to contest her 66th Grand Slam tournament. There have been plenty of highs and lows in those intervening 17 years, but a Grand Slam title still eludes her and Wimbledon is no exception. In 16 outings at the All England Club her best return has been the fourth round - although she can take heart that the most recent time was last year. Only her record on the clay of Roland Garros is worse and it is clear the American much prefers playing on hard courts. She has made quarter-final appearances at both the US Open and Australian Open, while her best performance this year was reaching the last four of the Auckland ASB Classic in January.
Extractions: 3rd round The 31-year-old will contest her 63rd Grand Slam tournament at Wimbledon but will not be breaking her major duck. In 15 outings at the All England Club her best return has been the fourth round, although the last time she reached the second week was 1996. In 2003 Frazier finished outside the top 50 for the first time in 15 years, but she has bounced back this season. Her efforts were helped by victory in Hobart, her seventh WTA tour title but the first for five years. That victory helped push her back up the rankings and proved a filip ahead of the Australian Open where she reached the third round, her best effort in Melbourne since 1995. Her build-up to the French Open was also buoyed by a good performance in Vienna, but she failed to carry it over and lost in the first round at Roland Garros.

Extractions: CARLSBAD, Calif. Rising teenager Shuai Peng upset third-seeded Elena Dementieva 7-5, 6-4 Tuesday in the second round of the Acura Classic. Advertisement Peng took advantage of Dementieva's weak serve to break the Russian seven times in 11 games for her third career win and second this season over a top-10 opponent. Dementieva is ranked No. 6 in the world. "I'm happy, but I have to keep going," said Peng, playing in just her second tournament in more than two months. "The focus is to get comfortable out on the court." The 19-year-old player from China, said she has learned a lot from playing in a number of tough matches this season. Her biggest career victory came against another Russian, then third-ranked Anastasia Myskina , whom she beat 6-1, 6-3 in the Sydney event in January. She also upset top 10-ranked Nadia Petrova in the same event.
