Seven total medals were won, including six gold, in three different sports. American swimmer Courtney Shealy, who was a three-time NCAA champion, won two gold medals in relay events. On the first night of competition, Shealy swam a personal best in the third leg of the 4x100 freestyle relay to help the foursome finish first in world record time. The Columbia, S.C., native also swam the backstoke portion of the 4x100 medley relay in the preliminary heats of that event.
