Chris Barrett Moves to Arlington, VA NEM News recently received the following note from NEM Chris Barrett "Just to let you know, Lori Sheehan and I have moved down to Arlington, VA. Lori is attending Georgetown Med. and I am busy looking for gainful employment. Both of us are still swimming, (Lori not as much as myself) and I have found that the local masters swim team (Arlington Masters) is not half bad. They have four coached practices a week and anywhere from 24 to 36 people attend a night. I plan, however, to still compete for NEM, especially at Nationals with Scott, Rob, and Ed. Our new address is 1808 N. Quinn St. Apt. 220 Arlington, VA 22209. Please tell any NEMs who are visiting or on business to the DC area and want to get a workout in that I know of a couple of places to swim and I would be happy to help anyone out. Just call me at (703) 528-6775 and leave a message." Former NEM Ed Pyle's Take on the Atlanta Swimming Scene

Extractions: Daily Texan Staff COLLEGE STATION Auburn senior swimmer David Denniston could have been disgusted. Swimming in his final collegiate meet for the Tigers, the breaststroke specialist swam fast enough to break two American records. But his times still weren't fast enough. "I did the best I could," said Denniston, who finished second in the 200 breaststroke behind Brendan Hansen of Texas. "Everybody wants to get first, but I was happy with second. There are a lot of talented athletes out there." In what has already become known as the fastest NCAA meet in history, eight American records fell by the wayside as well as seven U.S. Open records, seven NCAA marks and 17 pool records. Michigan's senior Chris Thompson smashed the American record in the 1650-yard freestyle. Thompson touched in 14:26.62, breaking the record previously held by former Wolverine Tom Dolan, who held the mark of 14:29.31 since 1995.

The event, held from July 17th to July 31st, hosts many of the biggest names in swimming- including Olympic gold medallists Michael Phelps, Ian Thorpe, and Tom Dolan- in Olympic level competition. Along with Coach Yost, another Monarch is participating in the World Championships. ODU recruit Bradford Worrell, from the Caribbean island of St. Lucia, earned the opportunity to compete in the championships by posting the best times in the 50 and 100 freestyle in his country. He finished 87th out of 130 competitors in the 100 freestyle at the championships, and will also be participating in the 50 freestyle event when it commences on the 30th.
