Extractions: Fairview Rgs 6 FAIRVIEW Rangers have carved another chapter in their pretty impressive history when they qualified to play in next season's FAI Senior Cup preliminary rounds with the possibility of games against Cork City, Limerick FC, St. Patrick's Athletic or Shamrock Rovers adding spice to yesterday's quarter-final game in Galway. Conditions for the game couldn't be worse. Driving wind and rain made conditions pretty miserable for both players and supporters alike. Fairview couldn't have asked for an easier passage for they totally dominated this game from start to finish. This match had great similarities with an encounter two years back against Roscommon team, Cloonfad when a poor pitch and a gale blowing down the field saw that Fairview XI gather their resources and give one of their best displays in recording a 6-0 win and going on to lift the FAI Junior Cup. Similar conditions on Sunday saw a repeat of that performance, this time resulting in a 6-1 win with the hope that this team can now go on and lift the trophy yet again. On this display it is well within their grasp. This was probably Fairview's best all-round performance to date in the competition with every player giving an excellent display whenever called into action. With a 4-0 advantage at half time the Limerick side quickly added No. 5 early in the second half and whatever little hope Kiltullagh had harboured, thereafter evaporated.

Audiences can look forward to a spectacular evening in true New Year Opera Gala style. The programme is brimming with sparkling operatic gems from the world's best loved operas, performed in a drawing room setting and introduced by the knowledgeable concert narrator, John O'Flynn. Once again, director Deirdre O Tuama has attracted an exceptionally brilliant cast, which includes the young Italian tenor Roberto Aronica who is now emerging as a major world star. He possesses one of the most stunning lyric tenor voices singing on the world's opera stages today, and regularly takes over from Roberto Alagna as the principal tenor in the premier opera houses around the world. One of Ireland's leading young sopranos, Alison Roddy, makes her debut in the Opera Gala series while Italian baritone Angelo Veccia will also make his first Limerick appearance.

Other great offensive contributions were made by Maya, Cassidy, and Claire, who scampered around the field in true Bunny fashion. The Bunnies defense was amazingly tough with the Cheetah Girls constantly being driven back. Defensive contributions were made by Cassidy, Emma, Andrea, Melanie and Claire.
