Liverpool won 2-0 Rafael Benitez has backed Steven Gerrard to maintain his astonishing Champions League goalscoring record after the Liverpool captain took his tally to seven in this season's competition with the opener in Liverpool's 2-0 win over FBK Kaunas. Gerrard climbed off the substitutes bench to break the deadlock against Lithuania champions FBK Kaunas before French international striker Djibril Cisse doubled the lead to give Liverpool a 5-1 aggregate cushion. The 25-year-old midfielder netted four goals, including one in the final against AC Milan, as the Merseyside club won the European Cup for the fifth time last season. Yet Gerrard has already bettered that tally by three after helping the Reds set up a third and final qualifying round tie against the winners of the CSKA Sofia-SK Tirana match.

He meant it with a passion. We could see that he was speaking from the heart about the only club he has played for.

Extractions: Main Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has had a dramatic change of heart and decided to stay at Anfield. The 25-year-old told Liverpool he wanted to leave after contract negotiations broke down. Chelsea looked set to land Gerrard after having an initial £32m bid rejected by Liverpool. But Gerrard has another change of heart after talks with chief executive Rick Parry, who said: "He realises how much the club means to him." You know that he is Liverpool through and through. Gerrard is at the peak of his career. From now on it is all downhill. It won't be a steep slope and hopefully he be playing as good as he did last year for a few more years yet (not that I am a Liverpool fan by the way. In fact, being a Chelsea supporter I'm disappointed that we didn't land him. Him and Lampard in the same team would have been an awesome midfield).
Extractions: Introduction With the popularity of football seemingly growing by the week, software houses have been falling over themselves trying to produce the definitive version of the sport on a variety of formats. There appear to be bucket loads released every year and most fade without a trace. Here though, is the first footy sim on the GBA. Now I wouldn't normally play a football game, I've played them before and, to be honest, I'm really not that good at them. Total Soccer is slightly different though. I first encountered an unfinished version at this year's ECTS and was intrigued to say the least. Let's hope the developers at Exient have used the months since to produce a game that we all want to own.
