MLSPA Letter To Robbie Fowler To Mr. robbie fowler LFC Liverpool, Merseyside England. Dear robbie Again,on behalf fo myself and the Major League soccer Players Association, http://www.labournet.net/docks2/9705/robbie.htm
Extractions: England Dear Robbie: I am writing to you to congratulate you on your strong stance on behalf of the dockers in England. Your show of support came to my attention through the English newspapers and from Whitey Disley, who is the President of the Marine Firemens Union in San Francisco, California. Whitey is a Liverpudlian who recently met with some of the wives of dockers who visited the United States to enlist the help of American labor on behalf of the dockers. In speaking with Whitey, we agreed that I should write U.E.F.A. to express our outrage at the fine that was levied on you. Gene Upshaw, Executive Director for the National Football League Players Association, will also be writing the U.E.F.A. to provide similar comments regarding their despicable actions. Again, on behalf fo myself and the Major League Soccer Players Association, we wish to applaud you for your stand. Also, Robbie, if you will, please pass on my best regards to Jason McAteer. Best Regards.
MLSPA Letter To UEFA As the Executive Director for the Major Leaague soccer Players Association When I read and saw the photograph of robbie fowlers courage in supporting http://www.labournet.net/docks2/9705/uefa.htm
Extractions: Nyon, Switzerland Dear Sirs: As the Executive Director for the Major Leaague Soccer Players Association in the United States of America and a former professional soccer player in Scotland, England, Canada, Mexico and the United States, I am writing to you to express my dismay regarding the discipline you imposed on Robbie Fowler. I have been involved with labor since I was a teenager and I, like Robbie Fowler and many individuals on both sides of the Atlantic, have great sympathy for the dock workers in Liverpool, England. When I read and saw the photograph of Robbie Fowlers courage in supporting the dockers, I felt an immense sense of pride for him and for those he supports. Somehow, I believe his treatment would have been different if his shirt had revealed God Save the Queen or some other euphemism. Robbie Fowler and the other men and women who support the dockers should be supported, not punished. To fine an individual for displaying his support for the working people of England is cowardly and reminiscent of a plantation owners mentality. I hope in the future your organization understands that it is working people to a large extent that support soccer throughout the world and for a player to express his feelings for those individuals is something that should be encouraged rather than disparaged.

Fraud Probe Into Soccer Transfers - Sunday Times - Times Online including the transfers of Rio Ferdinand and robbie fowler to rival clubs . Another key deal was the £11m purchase of fowler from Liverpool at a time http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2087-1482341,00.html
Extractions: The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) and West Yorkshire police are to investigate the circumstances surrounding the financial collapse of Leeds United including the transfers of Rio Ferdinand and Robbie Fowler to rival clubs. NI_MPU('middle'); The move by the SFO follows a confidential inquiry by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) into the running of the club up to March 2003. The DTI has spent six months studying a report by Brendan Guilfoyle, a top insolvency specialist, on the running of the club. The Sunday Times has learnt that last month Patricia Hewitt, the trade secretary, agreed to a request by her officials to refer the matter to the SFO and the police. Whitehall sources said the SFO had now approved a full-scale inquiry. In a case that brought disgrace to both players and the club, the pair were charged with assaulting an Asian student. Bowyer was acquitted but Woodgate was convicted of affray and sentenced to community service.
Extractions: New York is a city draped in mournful respect for Joe DiMaggio, the New York Yankee who managed the near impossible. He had a short-lived marriage to Marilyn Monroe yet preserved a cloak of discretion around his private life and his personal thoughts about how other men, other players, conduct their affairs. I wish his example could penetrate the egotistical existence of soccer players back in my homeland, players such as Robbie Fowler of Liverpool and Graeme Le Saux of Chelsea, who last week descended into a public disgrace that spanned just about everything from implications of homophobia to displays of petulance that would not be tolerated in kindergarten. Fowler is a sublime goal scorer, a gifted young man. He can score with an instinct quicker than men can think and make the act look graceful, even artistic. Yet even a year lost to injury, even the willingness of his Liverpool club to pay him $50,000 a week while the doctors nursed him back to athletic excellence, did not apparently drive some sense, some respect, into his brain.

Extractions: In a world where financial institutions gamble with the common man's pension money, soccer clubs pursuing a richer future can turn their Holy Grail into fool's gold. On the face of things, the UEFA Champions League is a tremendous business success. Formed 10 years ago with a pot of 56 million Swiss francs to be shared among the clubs that took part, the competition now generates close to $700 million for the clubs Every one, it seems, is a winner. Real Madrid, which operates in one of the big Western European television markets that generate the wealth, banked $40 million from the Champions League during the 2001-2 season, proof that the more sweetly you make the ball roll, the greater your profits. But Madrid had to speculate to accumulate, and $40 million would not even pay the transfer fee it took to acquire Zinedine Zidane, never mind pay his wages. The biggest clubs, such as Real Madrid and Manchester United, use the Champions League as a platform to tap into other and growing revenues from Europe, Asia and the Americas through image rights and merchandising.

Extractions: UCD Although the game was played in adverse weather conditions, which was not particularly conducive to good football, UCC still managed to get the ball on the deck and succeeded in playing some sharp attacking football. It was clear from the outset that UCC wanted to win the physical battle and then let the flowing football prevail. The second half started like the first with UCC again in the ascendancy. UCC Star striker Robbie Heffernan got the reward his efforts deserved after 61 minutes when he ran onto a long ball from workhorse midfielder Barry Leahy, knocked it over keeper Gallagherís head and tapped home from six yards. UCD tried to keep up the pace but never threatened the UCC and it only looked like a matter of time before UCC went further in front. Another busyand expensivetransfer season highlighted the preparation for a fixture-clogged European season England Manchester United's grip on the Premiership crown was never stronger than it was last year as the club wrapped up the title in a record number of games. This year that grip has been significantly weakened. While Liverpool, Chelsea, and Leeds United continued to make moves in order to overtake the Big Red Machine, United was happy just adding Fabien Barthez to help shore up the team's goaltending. Plus, the club will under significant pressure to secure the services of midfielders David Beckham and Paul Scholes or risk losing one or both to clubs in Italy or Spain more willing to splash out big money for big talent.
Soccer Digest: Fowling Up - The Fans Speak Out Full text of the article, Fowling up The Fans Speak Out from soccer Digest, I can t believe that Liverpool and robbie fowler have parted. http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0FCN/is_6_24/ai_82092220
Extractions: Save a personal copy of this article and quickly find it again with Furl.net. It's free! Save it. I can't believe that Liverpool and Robbie Fowler have parted. To many Reds fans, Fowler was the epitome of the new, brash, wildly talented Liverpool team. Maybe Liverpool will now make a run at another expendable, star striker such as Manchester United's Dwight Yorke, but it simply will not be the same. First Steve McManaman and now Fowler. I guess the "Spice Boys" lasted barely longer than the Spice Girls. (Of course, the "Boys" are much more worthwhile than their musical counterpartsand if you don't believe me, just ask David Beckham, who will find himself jealously watching Liverpool capture the Premiership this season.)
