Golden Magic: Alexei Urmanov The ice Skater A poem I composed about my favourite skater. The RuffledPage - A not-so-serious webpage dedicated to alexei urmanov. ;-) The Skater http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Arena/4990/urmanov.htm
Official Homepage Of Alexei Urmanov - Story Of Alexei alexei urmanov never won a major title before becoming Olympic Figure Now,sometimes there is no ice at all, and the skaters have to move elsewhere. http://home.snafu.de/figureskating/urmanov/story.htm
Extractions: The Story of Alexei. Istoriya Alexeia "If you skate for money only, it shows" W hen he reached the top, it came as a big surprise. As well to himself. He caught the whole figure skating world off guard - rivals, coaches, journalists, spectators. Alexei Urmanov never won a major title before becoming Olympic Figure Skating Champion in Hamar 1994. And even if some people preferred the Canadian Elvis Stojko, it was perfectly fair, that the Russian took the Olympic crown. Besides, there is not truth in the myth that it was a close decision between Urmanov and Stojko, even the Canadian judge had voted for the Russian. A ll this, the excitement, the journalists, the packed press conference, the cheering crowds seem so far away in the primitive surroundings of the Yubileyniy practice rink in Alexei's hometown St. Petersburg. Condense water is dripping from the ceiling, a heap of broken benches is stapled in the corner. There is no hot water at the rink, the dressing rooms are sometimes closed - no reason known - , dirt lays in the corner, and shy wild cats hide between the rubbish. T he whole facility, built in 1967 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Great October Revolution, looks neglected. The renovation which was undertaken before the 1994 Goodwill Games was superficial, the cooling system broke down even then during the competitions. Now, sometimes there is no ice at all, and the skaters have to move elsewhere. The rink was shut down in spring 1998 for repairs, and no one knew when it would reopen (It finally reopened end of 1999).
Plushenko alexei Mishin, one of the best figure skating coaches in the world, Evgeni Plushenko, alexei Yagudin and alexei urmanov, all either multiple world http://www.evgeniplushenko.net/coach.shtml
Extractions: Alexei Mishin, one of the best figure skating coaches in the world, is still a work in progress. He began his skating career as a young boy at the end of a rope attached to trucks that would pass by on a frozen street, pulling him and his friends. His had, who also skated, had bought him a pair of skates as a gift. Mishin would later claim he learned inside and outside edges while skating behind the trucks. "We also used to do some kind of waves there that were considered very cool," Mishin told a Russian reporter. The legendary Alexei Mishin Mishin learned the value of falling early. Once he fell down while skating behind a truck. The driver stopped, got out, took Mishin's skates and drove away. Mishin's parents encouraged him to skate. However, Mishin was reluctantly accepted as a figure skating student during a winter session in Leningrad and was told that he would have to leave by spring. Almost 50 years later, Mishin has proved to be as good as gold to Russia because many of his skaters frequently claim the gold medals under his tutelage.

Evgeni Plushenko-Article But his goal has always been quite definite figure skating. a groupof die-hards - alexei urmanov (the 1994 Olympic Champion) and alexei Yagudin. http://www.kingonice.com/article2.htm
Extractions: "This is just unbelievable! I am so happy!" The first World Champion of the new century, Evgeni Plushenko, was overflowing with emotions. The leader in Vancouver from the very beginning, Zhenya put a strong exclamation point at the end. He presented a super-combination of 4 and 3 revolution jumps, and skated his free program to the applause of the audience. He was congratulated both by his coach Alexei Mishin and by his main opponent, Alexei Yagudin. Millions were added to his already huge army of fans. Zhenyas parents earned money building the BAM. Bricklayer and construction worker Viktor, along with auxiliary worker Tatiana lived in a wooden wagon with no accommodations and dreamed of a bright future - not only the future of all mankind, but also that of their little Zhenya, who was constantly ill and had already gone through both-sided pneumonia at one and a half years old. It turned out that Zhenya was born to make a fairytale come true! Now he wins one international competition after another, earns tens of thousands of dollars, and doesnt know what to do with all his fans and invitations to participate in ice shows.

I have become totally confused about the time zones for the specific times listed so be sure to check your local listings! 8) Many competitions will also be broadcast. Extractions: Seeded skaters are emphasized . Since only the two declared/assigned competition result points count, and I only know the assigned competitions for the top seeded competitors, I suffer from some confusion over the point tally for the unseeded competitors who have competed in more than 2 events. These are emphasized in the Championship Series participants list. Feb 23-25 Championship Series of Figure Skating Final Paris, Fra Feb 24 7-9PM, Feb 25 FOX The competitors with the most point accumulations from declared/assigned events advance to the Championship Series Final. Skate Today ~ Russia's Mishin Is Dean Of Coaches Among Mishin s pupils are Olympic champions alexei urmanov and alexei both foron ice and off ice, that made the skaters learn jumps very quickly. http://www.skatetoday.com/articles0405/122604_2.htm
Extractions: Barry Mittan The dean of freestyle coaches is Russia's Alexei Mishin, who works at the Yubileinyi Ice Rink in St. Petersburg. Among Mishin's pupils are Olympic champions Alexei Urmanov and Alexei Yagudin, World Champion Evgeni Plushenko and several champions of the Soviet Union and Russia. Mishin literally wrote the book on figure skating that is used in Russia's Institutes for Physical Culture. As the chair of figure skating in the Russian university system, he developed the primer that all students use when studying the sport. In addition, Mishin has authored several books on the biomechanics of figure skating and jumps which have been published in Russia, Germany, China, Japan and several other countries. Mishin was a late starter in skating. "My parents brought me to the arena when I was 15," Mishin said. "I was always moving so they thought I should use the energy somewhere. My father saw a skater in the park and thought this is where my son should be. He came and skated with me to create some interest for me." Mishin competed in singles within the Soviet Union, then competed internationally in pairs with Tamara Moskvina.
Skate Today ~ Veteran Russian Pair Makes Final Olympic Run At 33, alexei Tikhonov is one of skating s most venerable and most consistent Our friend, alexei urmanov, used The Circus Princess in 1997. http://www.skatetoday.com/articles0405/032705-2.htm
Extractions: Barry Mittan At 33, Alexei Tikhonov is one of skating's most venerable and most consistent competitors. Having competed internationally since the 1980s, Tikhonov remains at the top of his game. He and his partner, Maria Petrova, have finished in the top four at both the European Championships and the World Championships every year since 1999. They have won two golds, a silver and three bronze medals at Europeans and a gold, a silver and a bronze at Worlds during that period. Petrova and Tikhonov are perennial contenders at the ISU Grand Prix Final and finished second this season after bronze medals in 2002-03 and 2003-04. But although they have finished second six times, the couple has yet to win Russian Nationals. Tikhonov initially competed internationally for the former Soviet Union with Irina Saifutdinova, winning the bronze medal at Junior Worlds in 1989. But she married, leaving Tikhonov with no partners in sight. So he moved to Japan, competing there for two years, but it was a lonely life. " I was alone in my apartment," he recalled. I used to go to the Russian Embassy just to talk to people."
Extractions: The typical question that is often asked this time of year is how did you spend your summer vacation? As an adult who wanted to have my dream come true, I accomplished that the weekend of August 3-6 in South Brunswick, New Jersey at the brand new Pro Skate USA Ice Arena. I was enrolled for camp, the SFX All-Star Figure Skating Fantasy Camp!

Iceskate.Net - Olympics The first Olympic figure skating events were held in London in 1908. Men,alexei urmanov (RUS), Elvis Stojko (CAN), Philippe Candeloro (FRA) http://www.iceskate.net/olympics.html
Extractions: There are two classes of figure skaters; Olympic eligible (the old "amateur" status) and not Olympic eligible (professionals). Olympic eligible skaters are restricted to skating in events that are sanctioned by their federation and/or the International Skating Union. Professional skaters can skate in anything *but* sanctioned events (with the exception of the occasional sanctioned pro-ams, such as the Hersheys Kisses or Ultimate 4 competitions). Shortly before the 1994 Olympics the ISU temporarily opened up reinstatement for professional skaters (which is why you saw Boitano, Browning, and others skating in Lillihammer), then closed it again in 1995. The only skater who opted for reinstatement and remained Olympic eligible after the 1994 Olympics was Artur Dmitriev. He and partner Natalia Mishkutenok won the pairs competition at the 1992 Olympics and placed second at the 1994 Olympics. Mr. Dmitriev then returned with a new partner, Oksana Kasakova, to win the pairs title again at the 1998 Olympics. The first Olympic figure skating events were held in London in 1908. Figure skating was not listed on Olympic programs until the first Winter Olympic games in 1924.
