She did a triple salchow, a triple loop, and a triple/double combination. She landed a double axel, but then lost the landing edge and fell. She did another triple jump and fell on a triple salchow. Ninth in the free and tenth overall. Patricia Mansfield Skated to a medley of Braveheart and Lord of the Dance , wore a white dress with a green shirt. The last time Patricia skated at Nationals was the last Nationals I did NOT attend, 1995. Somehow despite what must have been a lot of discouraging expierences she kept plugging away, and working hard. And here she is back at Nationals after 7 years. I really admire her determination and spirit. She does a very cool layback spiral, she is kind of laying backwards in a spiral, I hope our pics of it come out so you can see what I am talking about. She did a single axel, then stepped out of a double axel. She did double loop then fell out of a triple salchow. She has very good speed and fast spins. She did two double jumps then a two footed a triple. But she kept on plugging away and ending with a triple/double combination and another triple. See what I mean about determination. Fifteenth in the free and sixteenth overall.

The International Skating Union has already switched over to its new, points-based judging system, ditching the 6.0 entirely, and U.S. Figure Skating plans to follow suit later this spring. In a fascinating domestic battle, Alexei Urmanov (RUS) took the lead in the men's short program. Urmanov was faultless, landing a triple axel-triple toeloop combination and a triple lutz in his classical program set to Bach. The 1994 Olympic champion earned one 5.9 for required elements and eight more for presentation. Second was training partner and world bronze medallist Evgeny Plushenko. He opened with an attempt at a quadruple toeloop but just two-footed the landing and then could only manage a double toeloop in combination with his triple axel. The third Russian, Alexander Abt (struggling with an ankle injury), stumbled after his unusual triple axel/triple loop combination and his planned quadruple toeloop ended up as a triple to put him in third place. In the free, Plushenko was the first to skate. Again, it was not to be a quad - instead a triple toeloop - but he then reeled off seven more triples, including a triple axel/double toeloop combination. He stuttered between a triple lutz and triple toeloop but included lightning fast step sequences and excellent spins to earn two 5.8s for technique and one 5.9 and four 5.8s for presentation. Abt followed but his injury clearly hampered him. He fell on a triple flip and stumbled slightly on the landings of two other jumps in his Egyptian program to stay in third.

Extractions: Revised April 29, 2000 The International Committee is the part of the USFSA responsible for selecting athletes for the various team envelopes (which determine eligibility for training funding) and for selecting athletes to compete at numerous international competitions throughout the year. The committee has about 35 members, including judges, coaches, and athlete representatives. New Team Envelope Criteria for 2000-2001 The international team envelope criteria have been completely revised (again) for the 2000-2001 season. It's now based much less on subjective evaluation of future "potential" to win medals, and almost exclusively on concrete results from the past season. Under the new system, most skaters can already predict what envelope and funding level they will receive for the coming year. Team A - This envelope consist of the highest performing athletes in ISU Championships.
