Extractions: Wheeling was already on the attack down one goal in the second period Tuesday night when the Roanoke Express was whistled for too many men on the ice and then a second penalty to Rick Kowalsky for arguing. Instead of caving, Express goaltender Daniel Berthiaume stonewalled the Nailers for two minutes of that two-man advantage, for the 20-minute period in which Wheeling outshot Roanoke and for the entire 2-0 Roanoke victory. "Bert was awesome," Express coach Perry Florio said. "On a five-on-three your goalie has to be your best penalty killer, and he was." Berthiaume stopped two short-handed breakaways by the Nailers in the third period. Both times Mike Hurley and Dylan Gyori stole the puck and headed for the Express net. First Gyori fed Hurley for the shot, then Hurley fed Gyori. Both came away empty. Berthiaume snatched a slap shot by former teammate J.C. Ruid out of the top left corner of the goal.

Funeral Service Directory Search by Name: Obituaries Christopher Wuerthner, 37 WELLS - Chris Wuerthner, 37, senior builder at Rumery's Boatyard, Biddeford, died suddenly the morning of March 24, 2004, while at work. A 1988 graduate of the Landing School of Boat Building and Design, Kennebunk, he had been employed at Rumery's since 1991. Prior to joining the staff at Rumery's he had served as a teaching assistant at the Landing School and had been self-employed as a boat carpenter. His most recent project, the 38-foot lobster yacht, Moxie, was featured at this year's Maine Wooden Boat Builders Show. Among the outstanding features of the boat was the beautifully crafted and finished mahogany used throughout including paneled doors and the exquisite mahogany wheel which graces the pilot house. The design and construction of the wheel represented the kind of challenge he savored and that distinguished his work.

Wells and other players came down from the stands to confront Elmira's Robert Siewert near the locker rooms shortly after a crosscheck into the boards on UWS forward Jason Paschal. ADVERTISEMENT A five-minute major was called for the hit, which left Paschal on the ice until paramedics arrived to take him to a local hospital; but the penalty was whistled against Jason Silverthorn, rather than Siewert, who eyewitnesses said threw the check against Paschal. Wells and other Superior players not in uniform then sought out Siewert, whom UWS head coach Steve Nelson accused of bragging about the hit. Elmira head coach Glenn Thomaris' glasses were broken during the brawl, and Elmira captain Adrian Saul required stitches for cuts on his wrist and hand. Superior Police Sgt. Chris Moe and officer Chris Kirchoff entered the locker room in search of Wells, and were confronted by Nelson, who told them they had no right to be there. Moe also said that the UWS staff refused to assist police in locating Wells.

"The fact that it wasn't presented until the 11th hour, I didn't know if I had any option. All I knew I had to do is that I had a decision to try and make with my regard to my future at Union. ADVERTISEMENT "Colgate became a very late opportunity. Discussing it with Don and going over the options, it felt like a good decision to make." Moore leaves after two years at the Dutchman helm. In two seasons Moore compiled a 24-33-7 record, including an 18-11-3 record his first year as the Dutchmen placed 5th in the ECAC standings, their highest standing since joining the ECAC and the Division I level. That season earned Moore ECAC Coach of the Year honors. Last season, however, the Dutchmen fell to 6-22-4, last in the ECAC. "I feel bad that I'm not at Union as head coach," said Moore. "I couldn't ask for any more from the players than what I've gotten. I'm delighted for all the achievement they had. That's my greatest disappointment."
