Ftorek's Go Style Of Offense Is A Hit For B's sweeney hasn t been that close for a pair of shots in one game since This National hockey League season is still young but the Bruins already have more http://www.eagletribune.com/news/stories/20011014/SP_005.htm
Extractions: Eagle-Tribune Writer When Bruins defenseman Hal Gill found himself on a surprising breakaway from the Washington blue line last Monday, he didn't quite know what to do once he got in on goalie Olaf Kolzig. After all, except for lunch bets after practices over his past three seasons with the Bruins, Gill couldn't remember the last time he was taking a shot on a breakaway, instead of trying to break one up. Gill hasn't scored a goal since Dec. 19 and he missed on the rare opportunity, shooting the puck up over the crossbar into the crowd. Or as Bruins' goalie Byron Dafoe put it with a laugh, "Hal tried to roof it" and literally almost hit the FleetCenter roof in the process. But the fact that Gill had the green light to go, instead of just dumping the puck in and retreating, was a tell-tale sign of how times have changed thanks to new coach Robbie Ftorek. In the game before, a 4-3 overtime win against Atlanta, veteran defenseman Don Sweeney had two shots from near the crease after pinching in and joining the offensive rush. Sweeney hasn't been that close for a pair of shots in one game since God-knows-when. This National Hockey League season is still young but the Bruins already have more zip thanks to Ftorek's hockey version of football's hurry-up offense.

Extractions: VALLEY CENTER, Calif. -The thieves come in the dead of night, after it rains and the hillsides are empty, or during a full moon. They disappear into jungly thickets on steep, remote hillsides, stepping carefully through the groves to avoid crunching leaves before doing their dirty work. They operate stealthily, without clippers, amassing warty, thick-skinned booty by the hundreds. Allen Luce, a retired beekeeper, suspected the worst recently when he spied an unfamiliar red pickup truck parked beside the lush canopies of his neighbors' thousand-acre avocado grove. "At a dollar or more a pound, it adds up pretty fast," he said, speaking of the Hope diamond of these parts: the avocado.
