Extractions: October 21, 2002 - Well, I'm checking in from Toronto with my first journal entry of the season. We're winding down a long road trip tonight against the Maple Leafs, and hopefully we'll come out with a win. I'd say that tonight I'm definitely looking for a hat trick, especially if I'm going to catch the 41 goals Billy Guerin scored last year. If I'm going to catch up, I'm going to have to get to work soon. But seriously, we're looking forward to ending this trip on a good note. There's no better way to cap off a road trip than with a win, and especially against Toronto. I guess I'll start off my first journal giving you a little bit of my personal background. I grew up in an area of Montreal called Dollard-des-Ormeaux, which is also known as the West Island of Montreal. That part of Montreal is more English speaking, and all of my friends were English-speaking. My mom is perfectly bi-lingual, and we learned French in school, but if you're not in that environment you don't really learn it that well. My family includes my father Phil, my mother Cathy, my older sister Jill who is 28 and my younger brother Dean who is 25. Jill is engaged to a guy named Timmy and Dean to a girl named Paula, and both weddings will be next summer, so that's going to be a busy one. My wife, Jean Marie, is from New York. I met her my first year in New York on a blind date, when I was playing for the Rangers. We had our first child, a son named Tyson Dean (we gave him the middle name Dean after my brother), this past July 7th, which also happened to be our one-year wedding anniversary. We also have one other member of our family an American Bulldog named Jolie.
Extractions: February 26, 2003 - Its been a while, but Im back with another journal entry for you. And Ive got a lot to talk about, so bear with me if I get a little bit long. Well, the last time we talked, the team was getting ready to go out on that two-week road trip. We were hoping to do a lot better on the trip, and we want to do a lot better in all our games right now, but were still in the playoff race and as long as we finish in the top eight, that is all that matters. The trip started off in Montreal. Montreal is always fun because Im from there and my friends and family were able to come to the game. Its fun to see them in the stands and see people I know making faces and stuff like that. The only thing that stinks is that we always have trouble beating them for some reason. From Montreal we went down to Florida and had the opportunity to go to our owners house, Jeremy Jacobs. It was pretty neat. A couple of his boys were there and his grandkids. Hes got a beautiful house. Im not sure exactly where it was because Im a bit geographically challenged, but I can tell you that he treated us to a great day with a cookout and everything. Guys got to hang out on his property and hit golf balls, ride horses, go fishing, play basketball, go swimming and all that good stuff. It really was a fun time. From Florida we went to Nashville. We stayed over night in Nashville after our game and had a great experience. We got to go to a honky-tonk bar and hang out. They had some live country and western music playing and it was a lot of fun. We pretty much sat there in awe of everything that was going on. I mean a lot of us can dance, but weve got to work on our two-step a little.
