It was announced earlier today (Jan. 17) that Mike Ouellette (Kamloops, B.C.) and Nick Johnson (Calgary, Alb.) from Dartmouth College and David McKee (Irving, Texas) from Cornell University have been tabbed with the league's weekly awards. Ouellette was the Player of the Week, while McKee earned Goaltender of the Week honors and Johnson was selected as the Rookie of the Week. Ouellette produced seven points in two games last week, helping Dartmouth to wins over two nationally ranked teams. In the team's come-from-behind 9-8 win over No. 6 New Hampshire, he was a multiple-point scorer with one goal and a career-high four assists. Three nights later, he added two goals and an assist in a win over No. 13 Vermont. Against UNH, he scored Dartmouth's first goal of the game, pulling the Big Green within one midway through the first period. He then added an assist in the second period and had two more in the third, including a helper on the game winner. Against UVM, he scored the first goal of the game in the second period and struck again early in the third, putting Dartmouth ahead 5-0. A junior forward, Ouellette leads the Big Green with 17 points on the year with three goals and 14 assists. The son of Dave and Jane Ouellette, Mike played junior hockey with the Merritt Centennials (BCHL) prior to enrolling at Dartmouth.

He's perfected the spin move, which routinely leaves opposing defensemen on the ice in bewilderment. Coming from Little Caesars Midget AAA in Detroit, Johnson adds intensity all-over the ice. Extractions: First Summer Mini-Camp a Success! On June 17th and 18th, more than 45 current and prospective players met at Georgetown Ice Arena for GVSU's first summer mini-camp, which turned out to be both a fun and competitive weekend for all. Players were divided in four teams and competed in a fully refereed tournament in hopes of winning the first annual "Jarrod Frein Memorial Cup." Competition throughout the weekend was fierce. In the first game, the Black team beat up on the Red team by a score of 10-1. Led by current GVSU players Mike Kadzban and Nate Beverwyk, along with newcomers David Wilmert and Briggs, Black had a scoring touch that was almost unstoppable all weekend. In the second game, the White team barely held on after a hard late push by Gold to win 8-7. White was lead by sophomore player Nate Morang and newcomers Tim Joseph and Billy McDonald on forward. Mike Marquardt, Greg Kehr and Andrew Dykstra on defense gave White the strongest D in the tournament. In the second day of the weekend, Black held off another late rush by Gold to win 7-5. Gold, which clearly was a second half team, was lead by Jeff Stempin and Jordan Jakubik. Afterward, Red fell to White by a score of 8-3 to set up a championship game between the high powered Black and White teams. The championship game had an incredible intensity throughout and was a goaltending battle between Mike Burns and Troy Vanderweyden. The game ended tied 2-2 and went into a shootout, where Vanderweyden pulled a shutout for a 2-0 victory and the championship for the White team. In the consolation game, Andrew Beller led the Red team over the Gold team for a 8-7 victory.
