Extractions: The Shoot For A Cure Hockey campaign has been extremely successful in raising awareness about spinal cord injuries in hockey through the Play It Cool program. It has also raised a significant amount of funds for spinal cord injury research. This success could not have been possible without the support of the hockey community, and the following players, in particular: Brad May "We know that it's a great program; that we would love to see a cure for spinal cord injury and as a hockey player, we know things can change any day not just a hockey player, but for anybody, things can change any day and how fortunate we are to be playing this game. I think it's a great program."

Extractions: B's Make Big Addition By Lawrence Golstein Isbister comes to Boston after being traded to Edmonton in 2003. (GETTY IMAGES) “Brad is a solid winger who brings good size to our forward lines," O'Connell announced after the deal. "We're happy to have him on our team." Given his considerable size and speed, the Edmonton native has been a tease to this point in his NHL career. A change in scenery could be just what the doctor ordered. And considering what Mike Knuble did while riding shotgun with Thornton, Isbister might be a great fit. "I know Boston is a great city, an Original Six city and a big hockey city," Isbister said in a statement. "It should be a great place to play hockey. We'll see what happens over the next few days to see what kind of players we have on the roster, but it should be really exciting."

Extractions: Edmonton Now Generous with Goals Apparently Edmonton hasn't gotten the NHL memo that all teams must be all about defense all the time. Their denfense has been sagging this season . Last season they allowed just 182 goals. This season they've already surrendered 121. It almost makes sense, though. Players want to skate and shoot. They don't want to sit back and guard the blueline. Last season just made them want to see the other side of the rink more. Oh well. Maybe everything is fixed. The National Post has a really nice story on coach/GMs and how it's usually a bad idea. Obviously it covers Toronto's Chief Executive Thug, Pat Quinn. But it gives a nice overview of the failure of GM/coaches in lots of other sports, too.
