Extractions: Special To USAHockey.com Everywhere he's gone, David Hymovitz has had the reputation of being a goal scorer. And that reputation hasn't changed much after almost one year with the Binghamton Senators. "It's going well for me," said Hymovitz, a Randolph, Mass., native. "It started off well. Then I hit a slump. Hopefully, I'm on my way back. We're determined to have a strong team in the second half." After the first 59 games, Hymovitz had 13 goals and 18 assists, ranking him sixth on the team, the top farm club of the Ottawa Senators. "I'm still in a good scoring mode," he said. "I'm just trying to make the best use of the puck whenever I can." His responsibilities on the ice have varied this year.

All season, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers have remained atop the AHL's East Division thanks to a suffocating defense, airtight penalty killing and stingy goaltending. They allow less than two goals per game, so when they scored twice in the first period here Sunday, it appeared the Binghamton Senators were in trouble. Big trouble.

Extractions: UKRAINIAN PRO HOCKEY UPDATE by Ihor Stelmach Professional minor league report AMERICAN HOCKEY LEAGUE The American Hockey League's new slogan is "The Ticket to the Show," and so far it has been a show with a surprise plot. While the defending Calder Cup champion Philadelphia Phantoms now look very mortal, the doormats of a year ago - the Providence Bruins and Rochester Americans - are poised to take control of center stage. Here's how things shape up for AHL teams well into the second half of the current season. Teams are listed in order of division standing with special mention of Ukrainian players (in capital letters). Eastern Conference New England Division Providence Bruins - Have gone from worst to best. Lead the league in goals, but strong defense cannot be overlooked. Hartford Wolf Pack - Enjoy roster stability. Despite close proximity and so-so record, parent Rangers haven't asked for too much help. Beast of New Haven - Power play has produced nearly half the team's goals. Share affiliation with Carolina and Florida. Trio of Ukes on defense here: PETER RATCHUK (30GP-4G-14A-18PTS-24PIM), STEVE HALKO (24GP-lG-5A-6PTS-48PIM) and JOEY TETARENKO (37GP-lG-5A-6PTS-108PIM). Ratchuk has been up with Florida twice, Halko with the Hurricanes once. Worcester IceCats - So-so goaltending with no true standouts on roster. Somehow still find ways to win. Defenseman JAROSLAV OBSUT is back up in AHL after starting year in East Coast League.

At prep school they called him the next Craig Janney. Now he's making a name for himself at Boston College. Marty Reasoner ran away with the Hockey East Rookie of the Year award last year after being named Rookie of the Week nine times and Rookie of the Month four times, both records. ADVERTISEMENT "I was excited about it," said Reasoner. "It was a nice honor to have. It topped off a pretty good year." Reasoner's "pretty good year" included individual totals of 45 points on 16 goals and 29 assists. It also included his role in elevating Boston College from next to last in league standings to only one point out of fourth place. The accolades have since continued. This summer the St. Louis Blues selected Reasoner on the first round with the 14th overall pick. More recently, the league selected him as the only sophomore on its preseason All Hockey East team.
