Extractions: Fleury was bounced out of a Columbus, Ohio strip club two weeks ago after alegedly mixing it up with the club staff. Officers received a call from an attendant at a gas station across the street from the Pure Platinum strip club early Sunday, said Sgt. Brent Mull, spokesman for the Columbus police department. According to a report by officer Jason Gunther, Fleury was "intoxicated'' and said he'd been "hit several times by about nine bouncers'' at the club. He refused medical attention for a cut above his left eye, and refused to give his address or phone number, though he did tell Gunther he played for the Blackhawks. Fleury has apologized to his teammates. He played Thursday night in Chicago's 3-3 tie against St. Louis. The Chicago forward was not sharp in 19 minutes, 33 seconds of ice time. After missing the first 25 games of the season for violating the NHL substance abuse aftercare program, he managed to avoid suspension.

He signed a two-year, $8.5 million contract with the Blackhawks on Aug. 15, following three turbulent years with the New York Rangers He said he missed two practices last week because his father had surgery to remove a tumor. Drs. Dave Lewis and Brian Shaw of the National Hockey League/National Hockey League Players' Association Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Program are administering Fleury's care. "Theoren will continue to be assessed, an appropriate treatment program will be put into effect, and his progress will be monitored regularly," Shaw said. "Our primary objective is for Theo to restore appropriate balance to his life and thereafter to be able to resume his career."

Extractions: Ode to Theo Tuesday - August 13, 2002 He yells at refs, beats up mascots, fights with fans, takes stupid penalties, quits games, sulks, pouts, and at any given moment he could announce a relapse and be gone forever from hockey. But hes also our little boy. And we love him. That was Theo Fleury. I wrote those words about eight months ago. On that night, the Rangers little ball of hate jabbed, dove, whined, clowned, provoked, clawed, and otherwise inspired his team to a furious comeback against the Isles, capped dramatically by his dynamic breakaway goal to snatch the win. And then, with cameras poised to capture his triumphant moment, he wiped the sweat from his brow, flashed his patented semi-psychotic smilerepaired but still haunted by his trademark gapturned towards the hostile Uniondale crowd, raised his middle finger and flipped them all the bird. (Sigh) That was Theo Fleury. And now, as the curtain draws to a close on the three-year Broadway run of the Fleury Circus, the normally collective conscience of Blueshirt faithful seems torn between bitter resentment towards the mighty mite and fond reminiscence. Well miss him but we wont. A contradiction? Sure. But what about Theo Fleury isnt a contradiction? Hes a 56 finesse talent that plays like a 65 power forward. His background and lifestyle make him suited for chair tossing on the Jerry Springer Show, but his honesty and up-front nature would drive Oprah to tears.
