Extractions: Fleury was bounced out of a Columbus, Ohio strip club two weeks ago after alegedly mixing it up with the club staff. Officers received a call from an attendant at a gas station across the street from the Pure Platinum strip club early Sunday, said Sgt. Brent Mull, spokesman for the Columbus police department. According to a report by officer Jason Gunther, Fleury was "intoxicated'' and said he'd been "hit several times by about nine bouncers'' at the club. He refused medical attention for a cut above his left eye, and refused to give his address or phone number, though he did tell Gunther he played for the Blackhawks. Fleury has apologized to his teammates. He played Thursday night in Chicago's 3-3 tie against St. Louis. The Chicago forward was not sharp in 19 minutes, 33 seconds of ice time. After missing the first 25 games of the season for violating the NHL substance abuse aftercare program, he managed to avoid suspension.

Extractions: Theo Fleury chatted with Blackhawks head coach Brian Sutter after practice on Tuesday. AP CHICAGO (AP) Theo Fleury , the Chicago Blackhawks ' main offseason acquisition, was suspended indefinitely by the NHL on Tuesday for violating his substance abuse aftercare program. The announcement came just two days before the Blackhawks begin the regular season. Fleury, 34, has struggled with substance-abuse and anger-management problems in recent seasons. He signed a two-year, $8.5 million contract with the Blackhawks on Aug. 15, following three turbulent years with the New York Rangers He said he missed two practices last week because his father had surgery to remove a tumor. Drs. Dave Lewis and Brian Shaw of the National Hockey League/National Hockey League Players' Association Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Program are administering Fleury's care. "Theoren will continue to be assessed, an appropriate treatment program will be put into effect, and his progress will be monitored regularly," Shaw said. "Our primary objective is for Theo to restore appropriate balance to his life and thereafter to be able to resume his career."
Extractions: WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah From a hockey tournament as rich as the one weve just witnessed, and from a team as full of compelling characters as Team Canada, you can pick any number of players to celebrate. I choose Theo Fleury From the moment Fleury strode into Utah, black cowboy hat set jauntily on his head, to the moment he stood with a gold medal around his neck and wept like no other player at the sight of the Canadian flag rising to the E Center rafters, you couldnt take your eyes off him. Early on, Theo told us what it meant to him to be playing for Canada. He said he remembered 1972 when Paul Henderson scored the fabled goal that beat Russia and won the Summit Series. "I saw it on the TV in the living room and from then on it was my dream to play for Canada," he said. "Hey, I was from parts unknown" by which he meant Oxbow, Saskatchewan "but I was proud of my country." But Theo, you remember Hendersons goal? You were 4 years old. "I was very bright," he said with a snaggle-tooth smile. "I suppose I was the brightest kid from parts unknown."

Extractions: Yeah. Contract negotiations that don't go down to the wire. Good one, Gary. Posted by Steven Ovadia on Friday, October 04, 2002, 07:51 AM Where's Theo? Theo Fleury has missed two Blackhawk practices in a row The Blackhawks are not saying if this is related to Fleury's previous substance abuse problems login: laexaminer; password: laexaminer ) (he enterered rehab in 2001). I love Theo Fleury and I think he has the potential to be a great player, and I'm glad the 'Hawks took a chance on him, but this is hardly atypical Fleury behavior. His career is defined by personal drama. He's moody. He misses practices. Coaches force him to miss practices. And no one ever knows why.

Hockeybird.com: Ode To Theo fleury_bio.jpg That was theo fleury. I wrote those words about eight months ago . All the qualities that make him a hockey pariah and a volatile teammate http://mt.hockeybird.com/archives/001013.html
Extractions: Ode to Theo Tuesday - August 13, 2002 He yells at refs, beats up mascots, fights with fans, takes stupid penalties, quits games, sulks, pouts, and at any given moment he could announce a relapse and be gone forever from hockey. But hes also our little boy. And we love him. That was Theo Fleury. I wrote those words about eight months ago. On that night, the Rangers little ball of hate jabbed, dove, whined, clowned, provoked, clawed, and otherwise inspired his team to a furious comeback against the Isles, capped dramatically by his dynamic breakaway goal to snatch the win. And then, with cameras poised to capture his triumphant moment, he wiped the sweat from his brow, flashed his patented semi-psychotic smilerepaired but still haunted by his trademark gapturned towards the hostile Uniondale crowd, raised his middle finger and flipped them all the bird. (Sigh) That was Theo Fleury. And now, as the curtain draws to a close on the three-year Broadway run of the Fleury Circus, the normally collective conscience of Blueshirt faithful seems torn between bitter resentment towards the mighty mite and fond reminiscence. Well miss him but we wont. A contradiction? Sure. But what about Theo Fleury isnt a contradiction? Hes a 56 finesse talent that plays like a 65 power forward. His background and lifestyle make him suited for chair tossing on the Jerry Springer Show, but his honesty and up-front nature would drive Oprah to tears. All the qualities that make him a hockey pariah and a volatile teammate are forged from the same passion that may someday get him into the Hall of Fame. He is distracting and competitive, complicated and dumb, frustrating and captivatingusually all in the first period of any given game. He might be the first celebrity athlete in the history of sports that became more outrageous and unpredictable
