He would have had a role in protecting Crosby. To pay a couple of million for a ten goal scorer isn't my idea of a brilliant signing by the Leafs. I think they signed him because they missed the boat on all of the players that were until recently, available. I think the natives in Toronto were starting to get restless. I'm a Leaf fan but I don't see anything resembling a 'game plan' coming from Fergy as far as what this team is going to look like this season. It appears that the owners of the team will be more than happy to capitalize on the salary cap by pocketing the difference. I hope it doesn't turn out like the Blue Jays when they let all of their high salaries go and never replaced them. They made a lot of money during those couple of years after their World Series victories because of that strategy but spent the next decade playing bad, boring, no-name brand baseball in front of dwindling minor-league sized crowds.

Extractions: Of all the images from the weekend Shaq 's performance against the Kings, Vince Carter vs. the 76ers, Monarchos winning the Kentucky Derby and Pedro pitching against the A's the one image I can't get out of my head is Tie Domi 's performance at his Saturday morning news conference. What gets me is that Toronto made out. If you're going to do a one-for-one trade, you'll gladly give up Domi for Niedermayer any day. So Domi won. I didn't feel sorry for him breaking down. I found it absolutely laughable. He doesn't sleep because he's worried about Scott Niedermayer ? He certainly didn't seem worried when he was skating almost prancing around the ice after leveling Niedermayer in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup conference semifinals. I found it laughable that the tough guy gave us a peek into his soul and tried to show he has a conscience. I was thinking that it was literally a sitcom. He was sitting and giving me comedy isn't that the definition of sitcom? For him to truly open up, it took his 4-year-old asking him, "Daddy, what does 'suspended' mean?" That was the window to Domi that had never been opened. We did find out who can relate to Domi a 4-year-old. Possibly they're speaking to each other on the same plane? I can't wait until Domi's son is old enough to truly understand what his dad meant to the game. As they open up the scrap book ...

Extractions: Anyone who saw the recent despicable incident in which the " hockey player " ( and I use that term very loosely ) Tie Domi of the Toronto Maple Leafs threw a vicious, cheap shot elbow into the head of Scott Niedermayer of the New Jersey Devils was repulsed by this unexplainable atrosicity. I am a huge hockey fan as you can probably tell and although I am the biggest Devils hater anywhere, I am more of a hater of disgusting and cowardice play. And the thing about Domi's hit is that players wear elbow pads that are made of a hard plastic that when used as a weapon can cause as we have seen severe damage.
